Default Ginla - I have a Question for You

Ginla:
I have a question for you. Were you on bed rest with your twin pregnancies? The peri I met with said modified bed rest, and my RE said complete bed rest after 18 weeks. Who should I listen to? Also, when you do your FET, are you going to transfer more than 1? I am so afraid my body can't handle twins again, and I am thinking only to transfer one. I would love to hear what you think.

Traci,

No, I was not on bedrest. The night before my water broke, i started cramping, went to the ob that day and said everything was ok, but to go ahead and quit work and take it easy - not really bedrest. That was at 20 weeks.

We are definately transfering one! While I love having twins, I will never be able to carry them and can't take the risk. We transfered 3 with our first ivf and got pg with twins, so we decided to transfer 2 with this last ivf and got twins again! So, one is our option and we are extremely comfortable with that choice. Also, I don't want to ever be put in a position again to have to make decisions for a healthy baby if something happens to its twin.

My peri said I won't have to have bedrest with one. I have IC, but for all purposes, it is corrected with an abdominal (permanent) cerclage. When my water broke, my cervix was still long and closed. I have issues with my membranes and peri said bedrest will not help membranes. If they are going to rupture, they will even if you are laying down. So, I will be on vitamins (antioxidants) to help stregthen membranes and cultures for infection.

As far as who to listen to, I would plan for the worse, especially if you are working. I will go ahead and get things in place in case I have to take off or quit. From there, I would play it by ear. You are obviously going to have a cerclage. How often are you going to be monitored? It should be every other week at the VERY least. I would probably go with the peri's suggestion. My dr's tend to defer to each other on somethings. Like, my peri suggested waiting 6 months to ttc, but said he would defer that decision to my RE. But in the end, do what you are most comfortable doing. That is what I live by because in the end, YOU are the one who has to live with it every day and it will help with the "what if's" we all have. My peri said until something indicates otherwise, it will be good for me to work because it will keep my mind off things at least a little.

I know you are excited to get on with your FET...

Ginla:
Thanks for the information. My RE said twins would probably not make that much difference as long as my pregnancy was monitored, however, I don't want to take the chance again of losing twins. I think I may just transfer 1 next time. My peri said I would be checked and get ultrasounds on my cervix every other week. Hopefully I will be in good hands with my next pregnancy. I hope you can begin your process soon too. When they told me I had to wait 3 months, that seemed like forever. I am now 3 months into it, and I am shocked at how fast it went. I hope you feel good mentally. I still have some really bad days, but it seems to be getting better. Good luck!
