I have a girlfriend with PCOS so I thought I would help her out and join the boards. I sent her an email and told her to join. There is a lot of helpful information on her for her and I figured if I joined she would be more motivated to get on here. She is not on any medications yet but I'm trying to push her to help get that changed. She has been having weird stomach aches. She describes it as having stomach aches AND period cramps all at once. Also when she went to the doctors she couldn't find her right ovary. She had an ultrasound recently and is suppose to go back to the doctors for them to check out her ultrasound. I'm trying to figure out if all this could be linked to her PCOS. It sure has me worried and I was trying to get some comfort somewhere. I figured this was the best place.
It's hard to say where the pain is coming from. It could be related to PCOS, or it might not be. It could be IBS, endometriosis, or a million other things. If she's under a doctor's care, that's the best place for her to be getting to the bottom of things and to learn to manage her symptoms and live a healthy life.
Yeah. It just seems like the doctors are on a whole different time schedule then her. She went to the doctor, then that doctor told her to get an ultra sound because they didn't tell her anything, now she has to go back to that one again. It just seems like no one will even give her a hint with what was going on. The doctor said that the ultrasound person would give her a hint with what it might be but apparently she told her absolutely NOTHING. My girlfriend was very annoyed with this. And she didn't know they were do an inter vaginal exam and that ended up happening. She said the lady who did it just all of a sudden whipped the device out and my girlfriend was like what the heck. No one warned her of this. She is already diagnosed with PCOS but I'm curious if all of this relates. I'm just ready for her to get on a regimen and start feeling better.
I have the same problem... where my stomach area is crampy and tight. Docs can't give me an answer! But it was explained to me that 90% of stomach/abdominal pain is unexplainable.
And about the Ovary as well... They couldn't find my, I can't remember what side, but one of them. To this day I do not know if I have one ovary or two! Hopefully getting another U/s soon!
But I must congratulate you on being active in this with your GF... she needs someones hand to hold while all of this gets sorted out. Make sure to get her on here as well... it has a wealth of information! My doctors are not to aware of PCOS, so I learn about stuff on here to teach them! I wish my DH was so active in this!

Well they checked the ultrasound and everything was fine. But I doubt she mentioned the stomach pains. But she has been saying it hurts when she puts a tampon in so she asked the doctor about that. Well that was the whole reason for her going to the doctors and getting the ultrasound. And they said she has something that starts with a V but i can't remember what she said. And that it couldn't be fixed with surgery or medication. So its going to hurt the rest of her life and will hurt to have sex. But i'm going to be there for her.
Sorry for replying so long after your post. I joined this site quite recently. .
The V word they used is Vaginismus. It has to do with the PC muscle in the vaginal area. It has a reflex that causes the vagina to tense when trying ANY kind of penetration (intercouse, exam, tampons, etc). It is compared to the instinctive closing of your eyes when an object is thrown at your face. This is very difficult for women who suffer from it.
There is no medication for this. The cause for this is usually psychological. It is mainly seen in women who have had a traumatic experience (sexual or abusive), have witnessed abuse, or lived in an abusive environment. For most of these women, there is an underlying negative connotation to vaginal penetration. They cannot control the reflex and are not aware of the reasons why they have pain.
Sometimes vaginismus is a secundary result from an infection or some other medical problem, but normally these cases are found and resolved quickly.
It would be a good idea to see a psychologist that has experience with this type of problems. They can offer help throu therapy. Also there are a few physiological treatments (tending towards therapeutic exercises) that can help (under the guidance of a specialist).
I hope this information helps you and your GF. Good luck!
