Exclamation Gluc XR dosage advice please

OK so here's the scoop. I was on Glucophage 2550mg earlier this year until my insurance ran out. I had bad bad side effects on even the lowest doses. I have insurance again and am seeing another RE. He switched me to Glucophage XR. He told me to take as much as I can stand without the extreme side effects. Well luckily, I have had next to nil side effects with the XR even at 2000 mg. I havent noticed any improvement either, been taking it 2 weeks. So......should I up it to 2500mg? I ask because everywhere I've seen the max xr dose is 2000mg. Please offer any advice you might find helpful. THANKS

I think I'd give it a couple of months to kick in at the lower dose. I know that seems like forever, but at least then you'll have given it time to know whether it's working or not, and then you'll still have the option of going up later (if the larger dose is still a safe dose). I always think less is better anyway. Gives you a better sense of how your body is really reacting.

Best of luck to you!

Thankful to finally have a diagnosis to my weird problems!
Symptoms since a teen.
Only odd thing about me--popped out two little kiddos with no problem (almost too easy). Go figure.

I was told that 2000mg is the maximum safe does for XR. I personally would want my doctor to regulate my medication more than myself. Sounds like your doc gave you the prescription and sent you on your way! I agree you should kind of stand on the dose you are on now... see how you feel in a month or two... and then go into the doctor and talk to him. You might also want to try and adjust your diet and exercise routine. I dont know what you are doing now, but maybe that is what you need to do to see some changes and results from the XR. I am extremely happy that you dont have any of the side effects... lucky you are!
