I needed to refill my 2000mg XR rx last week but couldn't get to wal-mart to do it so I cut my dose in half for a few days till I could get there last night. In the meantime, I called my ins. co to find out why I was paying 50% of the cost these past 2 months instead of a copay. I can't afford to keep paying 50%! They told me that the Gluc XR 500mg tablets are non-formulary (they'll only pay 50%) while the gluc XR 750mg tablets are formulary (copay)! What?????
I'm no scholar ....but I know I can't get a 2000mg dose off of 750mg tablets unless I split one. Called the endo's who agreed to call in a new rx. Get to walmart last night (35miles away and need I remind anyone $2/gal for gas!!!) and they tell me they can't fill the prescription because I can't split the pills but they'll fill my 500mg rx. Fine! but oh no....they'll fill it *tomorrow* as they're OUT!
Ok, when I get upset, I cry - bad habit as you can't get anything across when you're acting like a baby ! lol No, I did not cry in wal-mart but I couldn't stay there very long or I would have! lol I left with nothing....I cannot take the Met ER as it makes me sick but my ins. co would cover that for a $15.00 copay. MOre than the making me sick, it didn't seem to work as well as the Gluc. XR. Maybe since my doseage has been increased it would work better??? I just know that there is no earthly way to pick up the XR prescription at 50% this week so I need to make a decision. I'll either be quitting cold turkey today or taking generic or convince my endo to up my dose to 2250mg so that I can get the 750mg tablets.
I am SO very frustrated...it's awful. I mean, we pay out of pocket for this insurance every month because dh is self-employed. Then to have them not even cover what they really SHOULD cover.....
Did I even have a question in all that??? lol Is anyone on more than 2000mg Gluc? Are you diabetic as well as PCOS? Did anyone respond better to a higher dose of the ER than they had previously?
Thanks for your sympathies I ended up picking up the 2000mg ER at the local Rite Aid. You know Murphy? and his law? lol Well, that's been my week. I got home from finally getting my rx and Wal-mart transferred the WRONG one! It was only for 1500mg and not 2000mg! lol Thankfully, the pharmacist at RA was really sweet and said she'd take care of it for me and I could come pick the rest up tomorrow.....I"m beat !lol The last two days are stuff sitcoms are made of - *including* my endos office telling me today that there was no such thing as a Metformin ER - I'm like, "I've taken it for 3 months so YES there is!! lol Grrrr....
Makes me happy that all I do is go to Costco, get my pills and pay my $1.73 portion without any questions.

Yep, that's my portion of a 3 month supply of 1500 mg met with DH's medical insurance. If it makes you feel any better, it *IS* in Canadian funds.

No it doesn't make me feel any better, missy And my copay was only for a ONE month supply.
OH! But I never finished the story...I picked up my Met at Rite Aid, got home and looked and Walmart had transferred the WRONG rx! It was for 1500mg from my dr in MS. that I hadn't had filled since Dec!
So, I call RA and let them know and they tell me they'll fix it. To come back tomorrow and pick up the right one. I figure they'll give me the 30 extra tablets....oh no...they gave me a brand new prescription for 2000mg! So, I got an extra 90 pills for nothing. Not nearly as good as your less than $2.00 rx but I'll take it! lol
As an aside, I switched back to the Met ER because I couldn't afford to continue with the Gluc Xr a this time around have had *no* side -effects???? How weird is that?
wow, I'm so sorry that you have to pay so much. The more horror stories I read about having to pay for this stuff, the more thankful I am that my dad has awesome health insurance. My met perscription was free! It's the same with pretty much all of my family's meds I believe. BUT the insurance doesn't cover the vaniqa cream, so I guess that kinda makes up for it? I'll pray for you that somehow it all works out.

Provera- 6/4/04- Af.... we'll just have to see, won't we?
Symptoms: excess hair, obese, dark skin patches, insulin resistence, never had a period(yet), anxiety, hormonal imbalance, acne on chin/sides of face near hair, decreased breast size, mood swings, and tired feeling.
Aw, man, that stinks!!!! And I know where you live, too, and that drive north is not exactly convenient! I'm so sorry you have to deal with that. You, it makes me wonder, if you were diabetic, and you desperately needed that medication, I wonder how understanding that person would be if they had to wait until TOMORROW to get it????! I gave up on the big chain pharmacies...I go to a small family-owned one in town. Too many times, we got short-changed on DH's blood pressure medication...they'd give him 25 pills, and charge us for 30! Not a problem, except those pills were 4.00 each!!!!
