I have been taking glucophage XR for a little over 2 weeks now. I am taking 1000 mg and will up it to 1500 mg. this Friday. At first, I thought I was losing weight, but now I'm at a stand still. Is it too soon to tell? When does the weight loss usually start? I'm taking it easy on the carbs but not too strict like Atkins.
Thanks so much!

Taking provera 10 mg for 10 days/month since high school
Finally diagnosed with PCOS November 2002
Started Glucophage January 17, 2003 (500 mg. and working my way up to 1500 mg.)
My list of meds: provera 10 mg. (ten days/month); levoxyl 50mg. for thyroid goiter; imiprimine 50mg. for anxiety; glucophage XR
PCOS symptoms: weight gain; difficulty losing weight; very oily skin; bouts of acne; excess hair on chin; irregular periods
Vitamin Supplements: multivitamin; magnesium & calcium; B-complex; chromium (glucose tolerant factor)
I was on XR for 6 months before m/c and the last 2 months. I did not lose any weight at all. It does not cause weight loss in everyone. Even so, I believe 2 weeks is still a little too early to tell - esp. if you ar egoing to up your dose.

I have been on Met 1500mg since Dec 2001 and did not start to lose weight until May 2002. I am still on it and have lost 50 pounds (no diet - no excercise) and AF has returned regularly.
I say stick with it for a while. I really does work.
Looks like we are on the same cycle of met. I was just diagnosed last month and have been on mine about three weeks. I will up to 1500 on Friday as well. I have lost about 13 pounds, but I have been kind of nausious.
I started met, lopid, and BCPills all at about the same time. I have been trying to limit my carbs and to be sure that when I do have carbs that I have a good source of protein with them. That seems to cut down on my cravings.
Just wanted to add my two cents. I have been on Gluc XR for about six weeks now and have lost 13 pounds. I am watching what I eat though--limited carbs and have definitely stayed away from a lot of snacks. I'm not sure that it is strictly from taking the Gluc but I do know that I don't have much of an appetite in the a.m. I'm only on 500 mg. I am curious to know whether you are exercising. I exercise about 4 times a week at the gym, so maybe that's helping too. I guess everyone is different though. I agree with the others--you should still stick with it.
