Just came back from the doctor and since I am shaking when I don't eat within 4 hours lately he gave me a script for a glucometer, lancets and testing strips. He told me to go to the pharmacy and decide which one I like best for me. He didn't want to point me towards one that he likes because it may not be good for me. So? never did this before and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I am clueless? Help!

I use One Touch Ultra. You get a fast reading, you only need a little blood & I like how you put the drop on the top of the strip & not the side or bottom. Plus, the case is small & easy to carry around. And it's accurate & easy to use the buttons. And I got free lancets when I registered & occassionally get booklets & stuff in the mail from them. I'm 99% sure they also have a website.
I've used the Accu-Chek Advantage meter & strips & I didn't like it. It took much longer to get a reading & the strips were a bit big.
My doctor just gave me a scrip for the One Touch, I didn't get to choose. But I like it a lot.
Ask the pharmacist what meter is bought the most. Check sites like epinions & Consumer Reports type sites to get comparisons. Ask your doctor what he likes about certain meters. He should be helping you, not just sending you off on your own. Though I do like that he's letting you choose what's best for you. Hope this helps.

I use the Freestyle meter and I like it quite well. It only uses a small amount of blood and you can test on your arm . . . which is less painful. It gives fast results too.

I had no idea that you could get a meter for such a cheap price. I thought they were all 60 bucks & over. I'm going to buy an extra one now, just in case my other meter ever has off readings, then I'll know.

If you can't get it to work after reading the directions, call the manufacturer. I got a free BD Logic monitor and I kept getting an error message when I first tried to use it. They shipped me a brand new one for free.
This is my first experience with a monitor and I do find it to be sort of inconsistent as far as levels go.

I started in 1999 with the one touch profile, and in 2002 I changed to the one touch ultra machine. I love it, it's small and easy to use don't have to turn it on it comes on when you insert the test strip.
