Default Glucophage

How long after taking glucophage does it start to lower your sugar?
My fasting was 329 this morning and 1 1/2 hours after taking my 500 mg of glucophage it had only dropped to 324.

I'm kind of worried b/c my vision is getting worse and causing headaches and I have a general sick feeling.

Just looking for someone to tell me their experience with high sugars and glucophage. Thanks.

OH MY GOODNESS!!! Does your doctor know? Obviously he does because he put you on glucophage...Are you also watching what you eat, like doing diabetic exchanges or anything? If not, I would highly recommend it...Also, walking brings it down. Do not skip meals because your body works against you and increases your glucose levels when you skip meals. Eat a well balanced diet, exercise and I would besure to make a doctors appt for Monday...My fasting glucose level isn't near that high. It is anywhere from 117 to 130...I am on 2000mg metformin daily...Also, ask your family dr to send you to an endocrinologist and diabetic classes to teach you how to eat to control your diabetes...

I went to a diabetic class in 2000 with my grandpa but I have never heard of the exchanges. What is that? What do you eat?

Exchanges are the amounts that I am allowed to eat each day. For example, I eat 3 servings of fat daily, I eat 10 carb servings a day, 1 eat 3 nonstarchy veggie servings a day, and 4 servings of meat a day. Everytime I eat a serving of something, I mark it off my chart. Those servings are called exchanges. I think you need to speak with your doctor and have him send you to diabetic teaching classes. It would really help you understand what a serving is and the dietician will sit with you and help you with a plan to treat your diabetes. Everyone is different and everyone needs different calories. If you don't start eating right and treating your diabetes, you will start having a lot more health problems. Diabetes will ruin every major organ in your body. I have seen people lose limbs and eyesight and kidney function and it is a horrible thing to see. Please seek help..I am worried about you. take care

Glucophage does not really work in bringing down blood sugars, it only keeps them stable.

Sounds like perhaps you need to go onto another diabetic drug.

I started out on Glucophage for 8 months but my blood sugars got worse and so I was started on Gliczide this August and things are a lot better.
