I posted yesterday about my delima since being taken off Gluco.
The answers, I got were more ?'s, so I thought I would try to expalin more:
I was put on Glucophage about 18 months ago to see if it would help me loose weight, I am of course PCOS. Dr. said - sure, give it a try. Well, Gluco can affect your liver function. In October of this year, my blood work showed elevated liver enzymes. Dr. feels it could be the Gluco, so he took me off.
I was devastated, as it was my miracle drug - it helped me be "Normal" - as regards to food. I was able to loose 86 lbs. with the Gluco.
Since coming off, I have put on about 28 lbs.
Had Dr. appt. today. recheck on blood work. Dr. stated if tests come back with liver function still elevated, he will send me to a liver specialist, to see if going back on the Gluco would harm me, as he knows what a great job it did for me.
So, I am just hanging in, at this point.
I was just wondering if anyone else, has had a similar experience.
Gaining and umhappy in SC.
Thanks for any advice.
Bonnie
Nope, sorry, I don't have any info for you as far as Gluc and liver function goes. I can tell you I was on Gluc and it didn't work out for me (made me sick). That's when I found the IR Diet, which actually works better for me than Gluc did. So if you can't go back on Gluc, don't give up. The IR Diet can help.

Christa,
Thanks for the info on the IR diet. Just ordered it from Amazon.com
Can you tell me a little about how it works and what kind of things you eat.
Does it stop those uncontrollable cravings?? That is what Gluco did for me, which gave me the ability to stick with a sensible eating plan.
Love this website.
Bonnie
yeah thanx heaps Christa
I'm going to order it as soon as i get paid .. might take a while to get over here to aus but im seems like it will be worth it If you dont mind me asking how much weight have you lost? if any??

I just wanted to let you know that I also ordered the IR diet book from Amazon, however, was told by a fellow cyster that it can be purchased here...I think it may have been Ms.Jill and I think she can be found on the IR Diet thread.
A fatty liver can also cause your liver enzymes to be elevated (as it is for me). So it may not be the Glucaphage that is causing liver irregularities. From what I was told, a fatty liver can also be an effect of PCOS.

My ALT enzyme has been slightly elevated for years, which my doctor said was probably due to the PCOS.
Seeing a liver specialist might be a good idea to rule out other problems, though.
