Thanks.

Good luck... if you have bad side effects (stomach upset, diarreha) try taking it without food even though it's recommended with food... everyone is different with the s/e!! I'm better off without food, most need to take it in the middle of a meal.

Points: 9,090.71 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 9,090.71 | in the same boat I was actually wondering the same thing... my dr has me on 500mg twice a day, breakfast and supper, and I find as soon as I take that second pill of the day I get incredably sick... and what is with this Lactic Asidosis thing? im scared to death! and I had a little problem with my sugar dropping the othernight, now I'll tell ya that was NOT fun... I got all confused like, and not really all that coherant U was shaking like crazy, felt crazy sick to my stomache, and I turned very white. mind you the day before this happened, I stopped 2 antibiotics for a female type infection, I started my period for the frist time in over a year by myself, and started met, and clomid for the first time... all in the same day.. I think most of it is just my body telling me to screw off with all the changes... either way it was not fun...
right around supper time I get incredably tired and sick feeling, I cant eat anything (all day, but more towards the night) because I feel so sick to my stomache the thought of anything makes me wanna puke... and I know I gotta eat to take the pill, lastnight I didnt take it, and while I still felt tired and run down, I didnt get all dizzy and nauseated like.... my question to alll of this rambling, is am I taking too much? should I call my dr and ask to have the dosage lowerd? or is it just by body reating???

I taste like beef. I'm probably made of beef. You are what you eat, they say, and if the title didn't mean something else, I would be a beefeater. I think red meat is good for you. Points: 784.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 784.00 | I was Precribed Met 500mg twice a day to begin with BUT he told me for the first few days to just take ONE and then move it up to the two 500mg a day. I am not on 500mg 3 times a day and already have a script for 850 twice a day. I am going to finish the Clucophage 500mg's that I have now at 3 times a day and when they are all gone. Which might not be for a month with the amount I have then I will go to the 850 twice a day. Oh and yes I believe most people start out at the 500mg twice a day.

and what is with this Lactic Asidosis thing? im scared to death!
| Lactic Acidosis is no longer the concern it once was, and the FDA allowed the manufacturer of Glucophage and Met to take the warning off the label.
For more info, please check out these threads: The Phantom of Lactic Acidosis due to Metformin When metformin is used as labeled, the increased risk of lactic acidosis is either zero or so close to zero that it cannot be factored into ordinary clinical decision making. That metformin can itself cause lactic acidosis is supported by the finding of lactic acidosis in people who took overdoses. Thus, the accumulation of metformin in the setting of renal insufficiency might be expected to precipitate lactic acidosis in some patients who are at risk. If one excludes overdoses, most cases of metformin-associated lactic acidosis, particularly the fatal ones, were probably not caused by metformin. Metformin: What, Me Worry?
And this:
FDA Safety Labeling Changes: April 29, 2004
April 29, 2004 — Last month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved revisions to safety labeling for metformin HCl, lisinopril, lisinopril-hydrochlorothiazide, fluticasone propionate, vancomycin injection, and amino acid injection.
Metformin HCl (Glucophage) and Metformin HCl Extended Release (Glucophage XR) Tablets Not Associated With Lactic Acidosis
The FDA approved a revision on March 19 to the warnings section of labeling for metformin HCl (Glucophage), and metformin HCl extended release tablets (Glucophage XR), both of which are made by Bristol-Myers Squibb, to reflect that there were no reports of lactic acidosis during more than 20,000 patient-years of exposure to metformin in clinical trials. http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/474836

My Mood: Points: 16,148.00 Bank: 41,449.90 Total Points: 57,597.90 | My dr started me on 850mg last week. He told me to take it for a couple of days once a day and then up the dose to two a day after a few days. I've been on it a week now, 3 days of taking it twice a day and so far I've had ZERO side effects! I'm surprised because I had been warned by friends who also take Met that it would take some getting used to, but so far..no side effects here.
Someone above posted about their Met 850mg tablets...you should check into getting the generic brand of Met made by Watson Pharmaceutical. The pills have a vanilla smell/coating on them and they are caplets..about the same size as Tylenol caplets. They are very easy to swallow and leave a little bit of vanilla taste in your mouth. No..chalky pill.
