Default Glucophage and high blood pressure?

I was taking 1500 mg of Glucophage XR and had no problems as far as side effects. Today I went to see the endo. and my BP was 160/90! Has anyone else experienced an increase in their blood pressure due to the medication? She is having me stop the med. to see if my BP improves.

At first she just said it was because I was so fat. Now, I know that my weight is a bad thing but I have NEVER had problems with high BP. It could just be a coincidence that it only showed up after I started the Glucophage, but I thought it was worth exploring. So I was just wondering if anyone else experienced this.

Thanks for any input,
Rebecca

I have read two studies on metformin and BP. One indicated the opposite...that improved BP in patients:

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/...9NGm1Cuu2Cb2YI|-2613904973409124550/184161394/6/7001/7001/7002/7002/7001/-1

The other percieved no change in BP:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/q...&dopt=Abstract

So there is no data in either of these two studies that suggests that BP worsens with Met. There are so many other factors that can affect BP...other meds, or even nerves in the office. For me personally, my BP has improved since starting Met.

Hope you can get to the bottom of this soon.

Wink

Well, your BP is not something you want to fool around with...keep it monitored, okay? In my case, it rapidly improved my BP....funny thing, my bp was exactly 160/90 the day I was dxd! But by my next checkup, it was way down. that iskind of weird...I haven't heard of anyone getting a worse reading after starting the drug, but hey, everyone is unique. Keep an eye on it and let us know how you make out!

HI, I just returned from the Dr.'s office and my BP was higher than normal for me. Now I am not saying it was high but it was higher than MY norm.

I would just remember what it was the last time or even call and ask and write it down somewhere so that YOU can keep track of it.

GOOD LUCK

Mandy

Default have the same problem

I have never had high blood pressure in my life until after I started taking Glucophage...Metformin actually. I am now on Capozide for the blood pressure. I would love to know if this is from the medicine or just the pcos. I'm sick of taking so many pills!

Exclamation BP went down on met

Beside my white coat syndrome when it came to my blood pressure when I was on met. my BP went down and my doctor was extatic! He was so pleased that my BP was down.

Just make sure that you are relaxed when they take your BP at the office. If I am the slightest bit nervous it skyrockets. But I always ask them to take it at the end of the appt. and 99% of the time it goes down.
