Question Glucophage, low blood sugar/fainting

Hello Ladies, I posted this on the Metformin board, but since I post here all the time and I know most of you... I wanted to get your advice too.

---------------------------------------------------------

I've been on 1000 mgs of glucophage since May 1st. I've been perfectly fine, hardly had any side effects at all. I managed to ovulate after starting the 1000 on May, got pregnant... but had a m/c.

I've been trying since then to get another BFP, but that hasn't happened thus far. Anyway, I seen my doctor today, and he upped my gluco to 1500, which I begged him to do. He warned me that I could get seriously low blood sugar (I am prone to hyperglycemia) and I could faint... also I am not to take it before bed, so I don't have a low blood sugar attack in my sleep.

I am light headed a lot already, and have dizzy spells.. but I doubt that they are related to the 1000 mgs of gluco I am taking, since I recall having this for years now, but I wanted to ask if any of you have had these sorts of problems with your met/gluco? Perhaps its just PCOS issues...?

He also plans to do lab work on me, so I won't start the 1500 for a couple days yet. He mentioned that my insulin level was only 10 back in December... so I imagine with the gluco its a lot lower.... do any of you know if taking the gluco with a low insulin level... can harm anything? Since I started taking it to lower the insulin in the first place....???

Thanks,
Kimberly

Kimberly, I have no idea about Gluc. and the side effects. But isn't an insulin reading of 10 really bad?? When I worked in day care one of the little boys had diabetes and his normal range was like 70 to 150 or something...so 10 to me sounds TERRIBLY low. Hopefully someone else will chime in!

ETA: Or was your insulin level after fasting? Maybe that's different then...I don't know.
