hi dani
Well if its not available in the uk, its surely not available here. I am seriously thinking of giving it up as I am so sick most of the time that my hubbie is really getting sick of seeing me so sick, and apart from giving me 2 periods when I never had them before it is doing nothing else for me , the hair thing is no better. Its just I fought so hard to get the stupid stuff in the first place that I dont know what to do, whether to give it some more months.
thanks again
Gypsy

I am so useless at taking Met. - I've tried umpteen times to establish the 'habit' but nothing works.
I know the Met helps me but no matter whether I try gradually increasing the dosage or doing it all straight away I can't maintain it.

glad someone else feels the way I do, do you notice the met actually helping you though. I took 2 tablets today and I feel fine but tomorrow I could feel crap. I dont really know what to do, but will stick it out for another couple of months. I have tried increasing it gradually and everything but nothing seems to work.

How much Met are you taking? When do you take it? There are some things you can do to minimise the side effects, like taking it in small doses whenever you eat, staying await from trigger foods (fatty, greasy, creamy things), or cutting right down. It took me 3 months to work up to 1700mg a day, and it was no fun!
I have found it helps me loads. I've been on it for well over a year-and-a-half now and my periods are spot on 28 days, I have lost 17 pounds (and counting), my skin has cleared, and my face is less greasy. I was on 1500mg for about a year, and even though it helped, things are better on the 1700mg.
Maybe it might be worth talking to your dr about the dosage. Sometimes 500mg is enough for some, while for others only 2550mg will do. With Met, some fine tuning is needed.
I wouldn't give up just yet. Give it a while and talk over the dosage with you dr!
Good luck and let us know how you get on!
Luv,
Dani

I am not sure about Met but I think it is available in Ireland. Glucophage is another name for it too.
I find it next to impossible to get my doctor and gyne to prescribe it - they are very slow in Ireland to prescribe it unless I am unlucky.
Ask your doctor for a glucose intolerance test and maybe it might help.
I notice a lot of the Irish cysters swear by it as it helps ovulation.
Maybe in the New Year I might get somewhere with my gp although I doubt it.
Good luck what ever you decide to do.

Did you start taking too much at once? Did you stay at 500mg for a while before you upped the dose?
Have you watched your carb intake? Too much carb, particularly refined carbs can cause terrible sickness with met
Everyone seems to have trigger foods with met. Mine are white bread or too much sugar free products.
Think about these questions and maybe you will find some answers to help you.
Also ask your doctor if the XR is available in Ireland
Helen
You CAN get met. It just requires extreme persistance. I had to fight to get met as well. My advice is to keep going till you find a doc that will rx it. David Walshe in the simms clinic is WONDERFUL and he rx'd it for me no problem.
