Default Glucophage XR and conceiving

I am a thin cyster who was diagnosed with PCOS in September after no success with conceiving for 3 months. My ultrasound showed the typical pearls, blood work came back normal except for LH: FSH ratio (FSH= 3.8 LH= 10.3) I was told I am not insulin resistant.

I have taken 2 cycles of Prometrium to induce AF and began taking 500 mg Glucophage XR in early October. AF was supposed to come 7 days ago and it looks like I'll have to take another cycle of Prometrium.

How long did it take you to regulate cycles once on Glucophage XR?

How long did it take you to become pregnant once on Glucophage XR?

How long should I continue on the Glucophage XR 500 mg. before I talk to my doctor about increasing the dosage or combining it with Clomid?

I know everybody's body reacts differently, but as a new PCOSer I have so many questions about the success rate of Glucophage XR with conceiving.

All your responses are appreciated!

Hi, I'm new to met too. I tried natural remedies for some time with only limited success.

In terms of met; it was the miracle I was looking for. I suffered almost no symptoms except for a heightened sensitivity to alcohol a few weeks after I uped my dosage from 500 mg to 1000 mg.

Within one month, my cycle returned. I had two periods in very close succession.

And as of 11/4, I am officially PG -- all this while using Yasmin too. So I got PG on my second month on Met.

Met is a great tool for PCOS.

I was on Met (regular) at 2250mg daily and then switched to 1500mg GlucXR 3 months later because of intolerable side effects (persistent nausea was not something I wanted to experience unless pg, KWIM?). I am a semi-thin cyster (about 15lbs over my ideal weight). I was diagnosed as "borderline insulin resistant," and I can tell you that my doctor was very proactive in treating me because most doctors would not have felt that my fasting insulin was elevated enough to warrant medical treatment. However, given my age and weight (at the time, only about 25lbs over my ideal weight) he felt it was necessary to start treating me to prevent future problems.

I decided when starting Met that I would give it 6 months and then move on to fertility treatment. This was really a sort of random time frame, but one that made sense to Kiko and me given we'd already been trying for over a year and wanted to see if my body would behave itself or not. I had evidence of Oing each cycle (bbt charting) between cd 29-39, except for the cycle I got pg, when I O'd on cd 42, I think. September came, and I went in for my fertility treatment consult & got a prescription for clomid. The day of my consult, I had a bfn, so I started prometrium, and apparently I O'd while taking it! Anyway, before even starting clomid, I got an unexpected, but very much desired, bfp! Things seem to be going very well so far with this bub.

For some women, it will take a lot longer for Met to work, so it really depends on how your body responds, and how quickly you want to move on to ART. Good luck! I hope it does the trick for you.
