Default Glucose monitor questions

Hi,

Let me preface this with saying I have pre-diabetes. I had been doing a little experimenting with lowering my dose of metformin by eating my fiber cereal in the morning with cinnamon with good results and then continuing metformin with other meals. So far, my readings 2 hrs. after breakfast were in the 98 range. So today I did the same thing, except I tested 1 hr. after eating, and the reading was 154. Tested again immediately after with the same finger (just continued squeezing), and result was 170. Now my highest reading ever was in the 140s 2 hrs post eating, but that was only when I took a day or two break from metformin, because I do get s/e's from Met (non gastric).

I've never had high readings like this.
I am back on weight watchers & have been eating very well.

So my questions are:
Would a reading be that much higher if taken 1 hr post eating as opposed to 2?
Could using the same blood sample have affected it?

Otherwise, I'm hoping to chalk it down to a faulty monitor.

Thanks for any help!

People have sugar spikes at different times. I tend to spike at 2 hr's after eating. Also make sure your finger is cleaned with alcohol prior to poking. I think your suppose to test on a different hand if you do two tests so close together.

Thanks Sheila. I always wash my hands prior, and then use alcohol. Does anyone know if infrequent spikes=diabetes/or diabetes down the road? Or are they just normal?

For me, if I test sooner than 2 hours after eating something I will get a higher reading. I wouldn't panic over one high reading. :-)
