The USA take blood glucose measurements in mg/dl which will give you the high values. Canada and the UK measure the levels in mmol/l which is why the values dont make much sense. A conversion site can be found at the following address:

http://www.onlineconversion.com/blood_sugar.htm

so 8.6 mmol/l = 154.8 mg/dl

Good blood glucose control means readings of between 4 and 7 mmol/l before meals and readings of less than 10 mmol/l after meals.

Hope this helps

Squidge,

Can you have normal blood glucose levels and still be IR?

I got tested for glucose level before a meal, it was 3.9 mmol/l (the range was 3.9 - 6.4). But I didn't test after a meal.

I've heard you can have normal blood glucose but still be IR, is this true? Do I need to test for insulin or something or test my glucose after a meal?

Thanks

i would test your glucose level after a meal as well just to get an idea... if you do it 2 hours after.. your fasting glucose was a good reading.. If you need any information on Diabetes and Insulin Resistance the go to the following site which is very helpful:

You can get a one off home diabetes test kit from Boots, i think it costs about £6... if you dont want to ask your gyn dr.. or go to your gp practice and ask and see if they will do a test for you....
