Unhappy Glucose test today - Insulin Intolerance confimed

Hello ladies,

I had my glucose test over 3 hours today and now I fianally have the confirmation of what was suspected - and quite obvious anyway.

I just wanted to see if there are any cysters out there to compare their test results. I am seeing my endocrinologist in 3 weeks to get all details about the test results, about what treatment I will get etc.

But I am curious now on how "bad" it is and what treatment other cysters received with similar results. The nurse also took "proper" blood samples during the test and I still have to wait for the results of those until I get to talk to the endocrinologist.

My sugar levels were:
9:00am, Sober: 92
Then I drank the juice with the sugar and had blood taken an hour and two hours after.
blood sugar after 1 hour: 250
blood sugar after 2 hours: 111

So the blood sugar normalised after two hours, but the first figure (250) was just way to high.

Some shared experiences would really support me a lot. I am confused and a bit scared and find it so hard to wait for 3 weeks until I have a clarifying chat with the doc.

I am so fed up with being ill - I gained 60lbs in three years and I have been diagnosed in May and it takes forever until all the testing is done and I get "help".

You help & support is very much appreciated!

Julia

I just had mine done a couple of days ago. My results were

Fasting 74
1 Hour 171
2 Hour 210
3 Hour 151

They also tested insulin which was
Fastin 3.6 (10 normal)
1 Hour 62.0 (40 normal)
2 Hour 117 (20 Normal)
3 Hour 110 (10 Normal)

Basicly my dr said that I have "Impaired Glucose Tolerance" which is just before Diabetes. She said that since my glucose is screwy but my insulin is up that's a good thing because my body is producing insulin to help with the screwy glucose. If my insulin was normal or low then I would def. have diabetes. As it is, I might but she doesn't think so and she doesn't want to do the test to know for sure because she doesn't want to put it in my chart cause that can suck for health insurance reasons.

Did you're dr do Insulin also? That seemed to be important to my Dr. so I was just wondering.

Default Glucose Test

Thank you for posting your levels... It gives me an idea of what to look for... My doctor is scheduling the glucose test for me. He is supposed to call either today or Monday with my appt. I am so nervous and I don't know what to look for and what means what... There is Type II all in my family... Plus having PCOS and being overweight. I cried all day about it yesterday. I'm just so nervous about what I will find out.

Sorry for the late reply - I was on vacation

So I saw the endocrinologist yesterday. She talked fast an a lot, so I don't remember everything. Besides the finger poke blood test the day of the glucose test, I also had blood drawn for checking the insuline levels. Basically she said that the insuline levels also indicate a IR and that my body never really is sober and that I am always producing insuline, but that it's not being absorbed.

Actually she said - just eat healthy and work out and you'll lose weight and be fine - and I told her that I tried that and that evenn with "good" carbs I am gaining weight, so she decided to put me on metformin (1500mg) and since I wanted to go back on the pill, because I am tired of haaving no period, she put me on yasmin.

In four weeks I get another blood terst to see how the metformin works and if the dose should be increased. I am starting with one for dinner for a week, then add one for breakfast for another and after week 2 I add one for lunch as well, so I reach the 1500mg.

Took the first one last night and had no side effects at all. Let's hope it stays like that.

GSDD - that is sucky about not knowing exactly. Darn insurance. Let's hope that things change and people can go to a doctor without having to worry about the insurance messing things up!

Katch, I hope your test came out alright!
