I took the 2 hour glucose tolerance test today. The dr. will have the results tomorrow, but I won't get them until my appointment next week. I hate waiting! I'm probably the most impatient person you'll ever meet.
I was wondering if how you feel during the test can be any indicator of the results?
Obviously when I got there I hadn't had anything to eat for 10-12 hours, so my blood sugar was really low. I was weak and very tired. Shortly after drinking the special drink (like 5 minutes later), I was really jittery and got a headache. Then, half an hour after the drink, I was dead tired. I spent the next hour and a half that I as stuck at the hospital sitting in the waiting room with my head on my husband's shoulder. I could barely keep my eyes open.
Is this how most people feel during the test? Is this any indicator of what my results will be? I know I won't know for sure until my appointment, but I'm just really curious.
I had a terrible time when I had my glucose tolerance test. Like you, I was weak, ill, tired, and almost felt nauseas after drinking that damn orange drink. *I cannot drink orange soda to this day because of it* They poked and prodded because I have rolling veins and they ended up having to get the last few tubes of blood out of my hands because my arms were shot. I was absolutely miserable.
Hope everything turns out ok!

I felt awful through the whole thing. When I chugged the nasty "cola" flavored drink, I had to do breathing exercises out of my nose because my body was trying to throw it up. I got all jittery and shaky feeling for awhile, and then the "burnt" out feeling in the end. When I got the results back, they showed the initial spike, and then showed me plummeting all the way down to 62 at the end!

My daily meds:

1000 mg Fish Oils, Nature Made Multi for Her (with Iron and Calcium), Calcet triple calcium with vit d, 250 mg Magnesium, Bayer Aspirin, 500 mcg sublingual B-12
I was fine before drinking the orange stuff, but about an hour after drinking it I couldn't keep my eyes open and started walking back in forth in the waiting room. My sugars were high and I was trying to wake myself up...

I just took the 3GTT and had the orange drink. I felt horrible 5 minutes after drinking it. After an hour I felt better. Turns out I just found out today that I have GD. I was told 2 out of 4 results were high. Have you gotten your results back yet?

Good news from the Dr! I got my results from the GTT and I don't have any sign of developing diabetes! No prediabetes! Not even insulin resistance! So I guess the GTT is no fun even when you're perfectly healthy. Yay!

So all up, do you have 2 blood tests with the GTT?? one after fasting all night and the next 2hrs after the orange drink??
I think different labs have different protocols... at my lab they drew my blood before I drank the stuff, then they drew it again 2 hours later. Some labs will draw an additional sample an hour after you drink the nasty stuff.
The test wasn't too bad, I thought. I got a little tired after the drink but nothing I couldn't handle. Unfortunately they didn't have any in the fridge, so I had to drink it warm... that was the worst part for me.
I just went through testing to determine that I've "crossed the line" into Type II Diabetes.
I've been IR for years and years. Was an insulin diabetic while pregnant w/ our son.
The endocrinologist took me off my Metformin for two weeks prior to the test. She didn't want it masking anything that could be underlying.
Did the GTT -- felt similarly to the OP of this thread. I knew that it wasn't going to be good.
The Dr. feels I've definitely crossed the line. So I've got to get busy and exercise more, and try to eat better. Switched two 1000mg of metformin twice a day. Maybe it'll be enough.
