Default Glumetza?

Hi Ladies
I just got home from my Dr and he put me on Glumetza. I am currently taking 1500mg of Met and have been for 3 mos. I told him I was still having some nausea with it. He switched me to glumetza today and said I should have no side effects with this. He said its fairly new and he has had great success with it. Its metforminXL but without side effects. I was just wondering if anyone else is taking it.

I've been on Glumetza since it came out (it's been out in Canada since...at least a year now).
I love it. I was on Met for over 3 years and could never get above 500mg a day. I had very strong reactions to regular Met.
Hope it works out well for you

I switch in February from regulr Metformin to Glumetza. I had a really hard time on the Met. I had what I called my "metformin moments" where I would have bowel troubles. I had horrible nausea and have even thrown up a few times.

When I told my Doc this, he put my on the Glumetza, seems to be working fine, Only thing is that I am on like day 47 of my cycle, haven't started a new one yet on this med, the MET worked faster...so I don't know what's going on there... But overall, I like it tons better.

I was prescribed Glumetza and they gave me a sample but when I picked it up from the pharmacy they gave me a generic of it. I didn't know there was a generic for it yet. Does anyone take the generic or are you taking the brand name? Is the generic just as good?

I had what one PP called "Metformin moments" every time I ate with the Met regular. The extended release has not shown any side effects at all, though. My Doctor has to give me samples because it's not covered by my benefits. I was wondering if you could post the name of the Generic pills, I'd appreciate it. I figure it won't hurt to ask about it.

Thanks

Was never on Met, started on Glumetza in February. The first month I was on it, I was slowly building up to the 1500mg I take daily now. I had a few go rounds with the turkey trots during that time, but after I was at 1500 for a couple weeks, I got over it. My cycle is right at thirty days now, so it took a good 7 months. I'm pretty satisfied with it. My only issue is making sure to take it every day. I'm scatterbrained.

noniepg: I didn't gain any weight (I lost two pounds w/o changing lifestyle and diet), but I did notice an intense craving for sweets, which I had never had before. I started exercising and eating better at the start of this month and have already lost three pounds. I credit part of that to Glumetza, because I know it's taken me FOREVER in the past to lose any weight with just diet and exercise.

Glumetza or Metformin XL is the same drug as Metformin, with the exception that Glumetza or the XL is an extended release type of Metformin, so it can be easier on the stomach and the half-life is about 24 hours so if you take 2,000 mgs of Glumetza, it is necessary to take it all at the same time every day (no splitting up the doses). I switched from Metformin to Glumetza like a year ago (I live in Canada and it was available in the the US before it was available in Canada) and I found it easier on my stomach than plain Metformin. Also, I sometimes found the empty "shell" of the Glumetza in my stool (sorry for the TMI). The pharmacist told me that was normal.
