My endocinologist just said it might help for me to switch from Metformin ER to Glumetza because it is formulated differently and may help me with the side effects I have from the metformin... I had never really been able to increase the Metformin ER to 1000mg a day... so I only have been taking 500mg a day. I get headaches, am tired, and completely lose my appetite on metformin. He says I can try this for one week and take two pills a day I am assuming at one time right before bed since talking to my pharmacy friend. Anyway, anyone have any experience on Glumetza? Can anyone tell me the differences they have experienced? Thanks!
I'm on Glumetza 500mg. I read the side effects of Met on this board and was nervous. But I hardly had any problems with Glumetza. Just a slight headache the first 2 evenings. I didn't have any stomach issues. I am able to eat salads often and I don't have a problem.
It's also helping me lose weight slowly.
I have taken both glucophage and glumetza xr. I took the glucophage about 5 years ago, and it gave me terrible stomach side effects. I had to go off it after a month or so. I am currently on glumetza xr and it's great. Some side effects when I started in Aug 07 (nausea, stomach upset), but none now. Unfortunately, no af yet either. I take 1500 mg, and my dr said to take it all at the same time, since it is extended release. I take mine with dinner. If I take it without food, it does give me an upset stomach. I have been able to lose about 10 lbs since I started it. I hope this helps!
I'm on Glumetza right now (1000mgs). Just started about 2 weeks ago. I was on Gloucophage XR but my Endo said this is a better drug so wanted to switch me. I have gotten sick 2 times during the night since starting it. But I noticed that it was after I had eaten something high in fat. So I'm thinking I just really need to watch what I eat while taking it. Other than that I'm not having any other problems with it.

I'm on Glumetza 500mg and you do have to take it with food. I have had diarhea a few times...especially after jalopenos. That is the only side effect, which is great compared to regular Met. So far I would recommend it.

I started taking Glumetza on this past Tuesday (I was on regular Met before). My doc told me to increase slowly but I'm already up to 1500mg with absolutely no side effects but I didn't really have s/e with regular met either.

I have been taking 1500mg of Glumetza for two months now. I have never had any type of side effects from it. I take all three tablets at night. So far, AF has come every month! The first cycle was 30 days, and the second was 28 days. I am not sure if this was because of the Glumetza or that I started taking Vitex too.

And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Romans 5:3-4
