Question Glycet?

I finally found an endocrinologist who would even consider PCOS, but I'm new to the meds... he prescribed 25mg Glyset to be taken with meals 3x per day... to be increased to 50mg when my body adjusts to the medication. He called it a 'carb blocker' but I was wondering if it has other benefits? He said I'm insulin resistant, probably have PCOS and he also mentioned syndrome X (what a mess!). I went to him because i haven't 'O'd in 8 months.

has anyone had luck with glyset? results?

Default Hi!

I added Glyset with Glucophage on November 21st to help me feel better after meals. I noticed I was really tired alot again and after meals was pretty miserable. (Even linking and balancing.) Glyset has a terrible side effect of tremendous gas, it lasted for about a month. My body has finally adjusted and it isn't happening like it was. I mean tremendous, blow outs and disgusting (sorry tmi). I have noticed that I feel a whole lot better physically, and have done some research on the med and it has been used for PCOS patients and the research shows it helps us ovulate and with acne. I don't ovulate since I am on the pill so I don't know about that, but so far, I am thrilled that he added it. Oh....I have lost a couple of pounds too, which I don't need. I am a little worried he will change my meds up due to the weight loss really. (Since June I have lost about 10 more lbs.) Overall, since starting Glucophage XR three years ago, I have lost 34 lbs which is considerable for me. I feel great, and I watch closely what I eat. I hope you have excellent results. I take 50 mgs with meals. I drink Atkins Shakes every morning for breakfast and don't take a pill with that since it is low carb anyway.

Blessings!

Excellent! That's what I was hoping to hear. I'm just getting started here, more concerned about getting healthy than pregnant at this point (but ask me again in 6 months!), so the weight loss would be awesome. I'm still adjusting to the low-carb lifestyle, but I'm getting the swing of it! Thanks for your input.

Default I meant to mention

I let the pill disolve in my mouth instead of swallowing it. I have read where the maker wanted it to be a powder because in powder form it has a lot more effectiveness. It doesn't taste bad at all and I take it right before I eat. I don't know why they decided to go pill form, except for marketing of it. I think the article said it is 1/4 as effective in pill form as in powder. I want the full effect so that is why I let it disolve. I hope you have excellent results.

Blessings!
