Angry GNC Ultra NourishHair making it worse?!

Hi folks. I'm dealing with hair loss in terms of overall decrease in volume, thickness, and strength. I've been taking GNC's Ultra NourishHair for about 6 weeks, which at first seemed to help somewhat by imparting a healthier look. But lately my hair is actually shedding more than usual - rather than less ... This has alarmed and worried me. Any thoughts on if the vitamin itself can possibly be causing this to occur? (Or maybe it's just due to the change in seasons?) Thanks in advance. ~Liss

First of all, if you have been taking ANY vitamin for six weeks, then the only hair that it will have had a chance to influence nutritionally so far, is the new hair that has grown out in that six weeks. Hair usually grows about 1/2 inch a month, so that means maybe the first 3/4 of an inch of hair that has grown out from your scalp has gotten any influence from the vitamins. It can't have affected the OVERALL look of your hair in any big way yet.

Second, it is very unlikely that anything in a vitamin could cause MORE hair loss. Sure it's remotely possible, but it is very unlikely. If you have PCOS, your hair loss is MOST LIKELY because of the hormonal issues. I wouldn't worry about the vitamin. Vitamins also aren't incredibly likely to prevent hair loss, either.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I hate my hair loss, too and it's one of the absolute worst symptoms of PCOS. I took NourishHair for about a year and didn't see any difference at all. My hair loss stayed about the same. I finally concluded as others have stated here that the hormonal (plus in my case, hereditary factors) are the main culprits for hair loss and that vitamins don't make much of a difference.

It might be a seasonal shed. I find that my hairloss definitely accelerates in the early Spring. I have been vacuuming up loads of it lately and pulling it out of the clogged drains. It's hard not to panic when this happens. You would think that Spring, being the season of new growth, would have the opposite effect! It does eventually slow down a bit once Summer hits, but the loss never totally stops. It's amazing I'm not totally bald by now.

Hugs to you,

Kathryn

Thanks for the replies and input. Sally and Kat, I am sorry to hear that you are going through the same things - I wouldn't wish it on anyone. For me it's been the roughest symptom to deal with mentally, and I've dealt with just about everything PCOS has to offer lol. I've been on Spironolactone for a couple years and I'd say it's helping "some" ... My blood labs show that my insulin is now normal. But my hair hasn't returned to the glory it once was.
As my overall health has improved, so has my hair loss - but not to my satisfaction.

Love to all cysters ~ Liss
