It's a complicated situation and there may be n one answer that's guaranteed to be most appropriate.
You were on BCP for 7 years.
Were you having reasonably frequent/regular periods before you went on BCP?
BCP can lead to your body detecting the extra estrogen from the BCP and shutting down your natural production of estrogen; then when you come off the BCP, especially after a long time on it, your body may be very slow to restart or increase estrogen production.
Are you currently getting periods?
Your ob/gyn may be thinking along the lines that you shouldn't try to conceive before you lose weight and your current testosterone levels are too high and the easiest way of bringing them down with fewest side-effects is by BCP.
But there's clearly so much we don't know of the detailed situation that it's difficult to comment.
Personally, BCP is not my scene. I was glad to be able to conceive and I've got used to high levels of testosterone and the effects of it (having to shave every day, etc.) In ny case, having passed menopause I've now no estrogen production anyway. But everyone's priorities are different -- for many women obviating the need to shave every day would be a first priority. All I can really suggest is that you make very clear that your ob/gyn understands that for
you ttc is the real top priority and everything else is less important to you.
