Default Going to the Doctor on Tuesday

Well I have now been on Metformin for over two months. the Doctor started me on 500mg for a week and then 1000mg after that. It's been 2 months of 1000mg and so far besides for a month ago having some severe mood swings I haven't had any changes. But then I don't know if I am supposed to see any changes? I still haven't had a period, not even any spotting. I take a pregnacy test once a month "Just in case" I havent had a period since August 15th. You would think even if I don't ovulate that my Uterus would force a flush by now? the longest I have gone without a period is 11 months but I was really stressed out at the time, normally it's every two to four months. So now I am trying to figure out what to ask of my General practicianer. I have never been to a specialist and don't really know what a specialist can do that my GP can't? I gather I should be asking my GP to up my dose to at least 1500mg if not 2000mg. For that seems to be the average of what people or on. The other thing I am curious about is what of the cysts? what happens now? Do I know have these for life? Will I get more? Will they start to go away on their own once my hormones get under control or if I lose the required weight? Am I supposed to look into having them removed? How are they removed? I'm a bit lost, I have tried sifting through messages after postings and more postings but haven't yet found the answers I'm looking for to my satisfaction. Well I think that's enough questions for a start :-)

Well, the first thing i'd do if I was you is see a specialist. I had a doctor who just kept upping my dosage and made me very sick with bad side effects. As far as the cysts are concerned, all they are is immature eggs that haven't been released. My doctor told me they don't need to be removed but i'm not sure if that's for everyone. When I was on Metformin, I was on 1750 mg/daily and still didn't ovulate, or get any breakthrough bleeding. HOpe this helps some!

So how long did you wait to find if the medication worked before trying fertility pills?

Well, I guess i'll start at the beginning. I started having severe symptoms of pcos when I was 16-17 and kept telling my family doctor something was wrong, but he just said I ate too much and that i'd adjust when I got older so I thought nothing else of it.

After I got married 2 years ago I went off my bcp and figured i'd be pregnant in a few months. Well, tried for 1 year and then saw my first RE. He put me on Permetrium to induce a period (hadn't had one since Feb.) and Clomid which we tried 4 times. Well, I was getting no where with him and found a fertility doctor that ran 3 blood tests and put me on Permetrium to induce a period, then Clomid and Glucophage. I was on 1000 mg/day to start with and to make a long story short, the dose kept getting upped to 1750 mg and this was over a course of 4 mos. From this I now have bladder problems, and much vaginal irritation, probably from the wrong dose my new fertility doctor told me. Basically if I would've seen a specialist sooner, I would probably be feeling better and on my way to pregnancy by now. Hope this helped?

I don't really know anything about fertility pills, I am a bit scared of them. You always here horror storied of twins and up. If you don't mind me asking what kind of bladder problems? And from what medication overdose do they suspect it was caused by? What type of specialist should I ask to see? I have suffered from cronic bladder infections all my life as well as IBS since I was about 20 years old. So far I almost find Metformin to help with my IBS, I find I am very seldom constipated, which lowers irritation. I don't have the horrible diarreha that some people seem to suffer from on met, I do get it two days out of 14 for some reason, but usually just mild and around supper time. I know, I know I am just full of questions today.

Ask all you want! We need to help eachother, goodness doctors don't seem to know as much as we do! LOL

Well, Clomid and Tomoxiphen are pills that are supposed to make sure you ovulate. Usually you only release 1 egg (or in my case none) but there is a 7% chance for twins. Only a percentage or two higher than a woman using no drugs. That's what my doctor told me anyways. The high risk for multiples occurs more with Injectibles (which i'll be starting next month yeah!!) or with IVF.
The only thing that bothered me with the pills were extreme fatigue and moodiness, but that could of occured with too many carbs I suppose.

Well, I have always had an overactive bladder, but with the high dose of Met. I always had 1 infection or another, trouble urinating, and just felt yucky all the time. The doctor's are just guessing that it was the Met, but can't be positive because everyone has different side-effects. Though, i've talked to many woman on here who feel that Met. is a lifesaver. I wasn't being monitored at all when I was on it, so that could be a big reason I felt worse or because of my diet. No way to know for sure I guess. All I know is that since I quit taking it 2 mos ago, I feel a bit better, but have gained almost 20 lbs since going off of it, so I hope I get put back on it on Monday, I just want to be monitored better. As for the doctor you should see, I don't remember if you are ttc or not but if you are a fertility specialist (if you can afford it) would be a good choice, otherwise a Reproductive Endocrinologist...Hope this helps!!

Default What the docter said!

Well my Docter decided that he would like me to remain on 1000mg for now. But I did get him to refere me to a specialist to start talking about fertility drugs. Not sure how long it will take to get into one though.
