I have what a lot of cysters have been calling the "pcos bible" with information on everything, including herbs and what they do. So awhile ago I went out and bought some herbs.. Ones that I felt would work for me specifically. There were:
Super Lecithin
Vitamin b comples
and omega 3
I did them for awhile faithfully.. well a week and a bit, and I know I should've stuck with them longer. I'm just wondering, I didn't see naything and wondering what can jump start ovulation and getting af's naturally PLUS work on loosing weight? Should I get back onto these right away? It's such an expensive thing to get into that I feel since I have these ones I'm going to finish them up but wondering if there's a different combination of ones to take when it's time to buy some more.
Anyhelp would be great! Thanks!

Hi Jennifer. One of the best hormone balancing herbs there are is Vitex. There are lots more dong quai, soy isoflavones etc, but Vitex is always a good place to start. Like any medicine it doesn't always work for everyone, but seems to for the majority of people. You need to do it religiously for 6 months though to say if it'll work or not (though it may not take that long - some see an improvement in a month or two). Natural progesterone cream (NPC) is also very good to add to the second half of your cycle. If you do a search of this forum for NPC you'll see lots of info on it. You've probably noticed there are lots and lots of different things you can try, but you are right, it gets very expensive.

I have heard that if we take vitex and dong quai say for a month we should stop it and then wait for AF to show up, if she doesn't then continue again for few more weeks. This is what i've been doing and so far i haven't had AF.
Are we supposed to take Vitex for 6 months continuously?
I think that perhaps the stopping of the vitex and waiting for af is good in a fairly perfect world, but for a lot of women with PCOS it'll take a while to start getting af. I'd take it continuously until you get af. If you don't get af in a couple of months, then I'd add some natural progesterone cream for a month, then stop the NPC and see if you get af then. I still get af break through while I'm taking Vitex (I don't have to stop it to get it, like with just natural progesterone cream) then I stop it until af finishes and then I start it again. (Same for dong quai)

i asked my naturalpath about vitex and he said for some people it was a good idea but not for me because i didnt have a high enough estrogen level.
so i think vitex is one of the things you need to be a little more careful with. or really research.. because pcos is complicated and everyone is different.
i started takeing a red rasberry leaf tincture and i swear it helped straghten out my periods somehow.
a week is not even close to long enough for vitamins to show results. try 6 months and eating well too.
I take 4 400mg capsules of Vitex a day. I wouldn't recommend that for everyone, and I'm probably taking too much, but that's what I started out with when I was trying to get my first AF. It came after about 5 weeks.
For some reason, I never got AF when I was taking the GNC brands. I switched to a different brand and BOOM.. I got AF.
