Default Going off meds to ttc...

Hello,

I am thinking about ttc again (I tried unsuccessfully for about 11 months one year ago) and am wondering when/how to go off my meds. I've been taking Yasmin and Spiro for almost a year, and they've done amazing things for me...my acne is completely gone and facial hair is almost gone. I've gone from 200 lbs to 125, so I'm hoping that I will be in more optimal health then I was the last time.

The thing is, I'm just terrified of going off my meds and going through the same nightmare as before (no ovulation or period) AND seeing all of my PCOS symptoms come back in full force. I've heard that spiro can actually induce ovulation, so I was thinking of going off of the Yasmin for a few months while staying on the Spiro (not ttc of course). If I seem to be ovulating, then I can go off of Spiro and start ttc. Has anyone attempted anything like this? Any thoughts?

Sorry for the rambling post...I'm just so anxious not to screw things up. I'd appreciate any advice!

Spiro can cause birth defects, so I wouldn't stop the Yas and continue Spiro, even if you aren't actively TTC. I have never heard of Spiro inducing O. I know Met can. Neither one did for me. I took Spiro for nearly a year and stopped to TTC. It was tough but I am doing ok. You can always start it up again after you have a baby.

When you are ready to TTC, the stop Spiro about 3-4 weeks before you start trying so it is fully out of your system. If you're not O'ing, you can ask about taking Met (even if you aren't IR, I am not either) and Met could help you to O, and it helps to keep weight off so that's a plus.

HTH and good luck
