I have looked around, and I haven't found anyone talking about this, so I suppose I will post a new thread.
I have been on and off Met for, gosh, a long time. Maybe 5 years.
Usually 500-1000 MG a day, and it has given me a cycle maybe twice, but I usually had to drop the medication soon after, (financial problems) so I can't see any final results from it.
Well, now that I have got a new PCP, and she's got me on the dosage I was looking to be on, 2000mg, I have been taking this dosage for about 4 months now, and last time I was taking 1000mg, I had a period within a month. I have seen NO results this time. I have gained weight, I have no improvement with any of my other symptoms.
She did start me off on 500mg and we worked our way up from there for a few months, but I wasn't seeing any results then either. I just figured when I got to the ideal dosage, that I would be able to see improvement occur. (So I know it's not my dosage)
My logic was to start a low carb diet again, as of the first of the year. From reading the boards as long as I have, (6 years) it seemed the best "cocktail" against PCOS, that I could achieve without seeing a RE (Who is not covered by my insurance), Glucophage & Low carb, right? You would think that something would be happening, with both the big guns working for me, but Nada.
So, what am I getting to?
I wonder if you find that Metformin seems less effective if you have taken it on and off, rather than the effects you see the first time you take it. and if so, what can be done that you are aware of to kick up this process!?

I was wondering the same thing. I was taking Metformin at 2000mg dosage. I stopped taking it around mid to late summer because I was tired of feeling sick all the time. I'm now getting ready to go back on it, and work my way up to 2000mg, or at minimum 1500mg, but I just wondered if it would be as effective or take longer then the first time around?
