I've had great success on Metformin...2 children, periods regularly too, weight loss. But now I feel I should decide if I should go off of it since I have what I wanted from it.
Questions...
Did you quit getting periods when you went off it?
Did you gain weight then too?
Did you have any good effects when you went off?
Anything else it would benefit me to know?
I'm scared...
Sherry
I took met during my pregnancy, and after I delivered, I went off it.
I was also taking alternative remedies while I was PG, and after I delivered, I went off the alternatives as well.
I did start gaining weight again (I gained about 25 lbs). After AF started again, I had regular cycles, 28-30 days, for a while.
THEN, AF in Jan 06 came on CD35. Oops! I realized that with the weight gain, and that long cycle, that I needed to start treating my PCOS again.
I chose to use only alternatives, and NO Met. Feb AF arrived on CD28. I have continued to use the alternative PCOS treatments, and EVERY month, AF has arrived on CD27-29, and so far I have lost 58 lbs.
So if you decide to go off Met, you should probably have in place an alternative plan to treat your PCOS. You should do SOMETHING to treat your PCOS. Untreated PCOS can lead to hormone imbalances, weight gain, type II diebetes, high cholesterol, and other PCOS symptoms.
HTH as you are making your decision.

Unless I'm on met, I have no periods at all...I'm talking years of nothing. Regulated insulin affect so much more than having babies (appetite, mood, and other hormones), so for me I'll likely be on it until menopause. Longterm studies are really positive on met, so me and my Dr are really comfortable with this choice. I don't ever want to feel like I did at my diagnosis again for anything.
Good luck as you choose what's best for you.

I appreciate your experiences and ideas. I guess I need to speak with the doctor...I wanted someone to say they were better after Met, oh well. I definitely don't want to be the "pre-met" gal I once was. Thanks!
