Also, does anyone know of the negative effects of taking spironolactone long-term (say, for years)?
I've been on it for over 4 years now. I can't imagine it's great to be on medication for that long, but honestly, I'm terrified to go off it. It has helped me with acne and hair. |

I decided in case any little miracles happened in the meantime that I didn't want to have to worry about birth defects. I didn't really notice any side effects other than less bathroom breaks. I'm sure someone will have more knowledge than I do! Good luck!

I am taking the combination of Spironolactone(50mgs) and Flutamide (250mgs). Flutamide has stopped my hair loss and Spironolactone keeps my skin nice. (Even at the low dose)

I have been off Spiro for a bit more than a month now, because I want to try for a baby, and I was worried about what would happen too. I haven't noticed any edema, and maybe i put back on a pound or two of water, but the side effect I notice the most is that... AF is a week late! Took a pregnancy test, which was negative, so not too sure what's going on. Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks! |

Thanks! | Maybe it's just a simple adjustment your body is making right now.
Do you have your Testosterone levels checked? When mine go up, my cycles are crazy. The Metformin regulated my cycles. I hope that you are able to conceive soon. Good luck!

Well my hair got SO MUCH WORSE and now I'm stuck with it all. I developed so much new hair growth in that time period that it was unbelievable. I think if you stop taking it for TTC and then go right back on it you shouldn't experience any problems. |

I stopped for a bout a year/ year and a half in college, because I was too lazy and forgetful to take it. Well man did my skin break out terribly! and the hair growth was awful. I'm back on it now, and loving it, my skin has cleared up again lovely... and I'll deal with the hair

My Mood: Points: 8,750.17 Bank: 633,377.22 Total Points: 642,127.38 | I'm on 150mg a day, I've only taken it once in the last 3 weeks (because I'm off work and out of my routine so I keep forgetting to take it), but over this time I haven't noticed a bit of difference - but then, I've been on it for over a year and haven't noticed any positive difference since I've started on it. I HAVE however noticed that my hair has been thinning since I went on it dunno if thats a coincendence.
I got IPL lazer treatment on my facial hair and my skin was has been ok since before I started it, so I'm not sure why I'm on it.now, it was my endo's idea because of the facial hair, but I think the IPL has pretty much dealt with that problem. I really don't know why I bother filling the prescription....I'm seeing my endo in December and I'll need to discuss this with him. |

My Mood: Points: 7,093.87 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 7,093.87 | I was on Spriro for about 7 or 8 years before I quit cold turkey. My hair growth and acne was out of control and cleared up while on Spiro..HOWEVER..I was taking BCP's at the same time. I did not notice any negative side effects after quiting Spiro..no hair growth or acne. Its only since I've quit my BCP's that I've been having problems. The hair on my face and acne has come back with a vengence!I hope this helps. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Keep us posted!! |
