I'm not sure if this is the right forum, but here it goes:
Has anyone "gone organic"? Aside from the higher cost of food, have you noticed any difference in the taste of food, in your health, or are you doing it for ethical rather than health reasons? If you are in Canada, do you have any good resources?
With all the talk of pesticides and especially hormones and such- I am wondering if this might be the way to go?

I haven't gone 100% organic, but I do buy as much organic produce as I can. I only buy organic carrots (or grow them myself), yogurt and eggs anymore. Zehrs has a growing organic section, both in produce and products, like Raisin Bran cereal, and cookies and crackers.
Organic costs more (but not that much when you buy in season), but with it I tend to waste less. I buy what I can, and I find that I am inclined to use more of a product when it's organic, rather than tossing some of it (like lettuce and cabbage). It just tastes better too. Now if you want organic strawberries in January, yes, you are going to pay a premium. But if you want an organic apple, it won't cost much more than the ones grown with chemicals.
For organic sprouts, check out the bottom floor of the St. Lawrence Market. There is a vendor there (by the bread guy) who has wonderful sprouts of all kinds! I love stopping there when I'm at the market.

I must say I notice a HUGE difference with organic milk and yogurts- they taste soooooooooooo much better. Though I haven't really noticed much difference with fruits and veggies. I will try the market and see what I can find. I also found a grocery gateway delivery service for organic veggies, the addy is http://www.torontoorganics.com/wow_latest.asp.
ALso there is the Good Food Box program that offers organic and regular boxes of fruits and veggies. In addition to that, it's a project of the local foodbank. I am going to order a box monthly to start and then biweekly I think. The addy for that is http://www.foodshare.net/goodfoodbox03.htm. If I am not mistaken, they have this in the states as well.
I think I will stick to organic milk and dairy for sure, bread, and maybe meats (though I don't eat a lot of meat anyway and it is ridiculously expensive).

The WOW foods is in Toronto and only delivers locally, but I'm sure you might find something in your area if you are in a big city. The Good Food Box program is in a number of cities nation wide.
What is macrobiotic?

The Foodshare link is dead. Here is an updated one. I'm trying to find a box for my area... they sure don't make it easy. It's like I'm following a maze. Click here, go here, check this link.... Hang on, I may be there...... GAAAAAAH! Not a single one for this area! Come on! Ohsweken has one! Even Dryden has one.
Can you believe that even though I am in Niagara, I can't find much local organic produce, even outside of the Good Food Box? We're the fruit and veg belt of Ontario! But it's all farmed chemically.

How strange that GFB link was dead- I just used it today. Thanks for posting the updated one. Ya, sadly I can believe that depite being the ag centre, it is impossible to find organic produce
I emailed the people at the GFB and eventually they responded. I'l afraid they aren't that good at rapid response, I just hope the tasty organic food makes up for they slower than molasses response!

I gave up trying to buy organic produce....so I started my own vege garden in my backyard!
Unfortunately, I can't grow everything myself, but it is a start until I can find a local market or shop that caters for my desires...the plus on starting a garden, I lost 20 kilos (this was before I joined Soul Cysters) because I had to do the digging & I was getting off my lazy butt to tend the garden.
Another plus, is my girls now come outside eagerly, to see what seeds are sprouting & my neighbours finally started talking to us, they also have a vege garden (we recently swapped some seeds).
It's just my 2 cents worth, but it is another option for those wanting organic produce.
Since I moved to the UK Ive been buying organic diary, meat and fruit and veg. I do definitely try as musch as possible to eat organic because they put so many chemicalsin non organic food.

In our household much of the produce we buy is organic e.g dairy, fish, fruits and veg. Have found that I can eat some organic produce more easily without the allergic reactions that I get at times from non-organic.
It sound slike the UK is more progressive in terms of going organic. I can manage the extra prices of dairy and produce, but what I really want is to find a piece of meat that is cheaper than buying and raising the cow or chicken myself!!! It's crazy!
