Default Going for scan

On Friday, talked my doctor into it! However this month for some unknown reason I've had what could be described as a totally normal cycle, my skin has cleared up, no cystic acne, I ovulated on day 16 of my cycle putting me on track for a 28 day cycle, and I have sore premenstrual boobs, which I haven't had for ages.

Now I'm worried that no cysts will show up on my ovaries!!!!! So 2 questions. Is it normal to have a random normal cycle when you have PCOS and are enlarged cystic ovaries always there, not just if you're not ovulating?

Thank you!

I am not a doctor or anything, but from my personal experience, I would say that yes, it is possible to have a normal cycle with PCOS. I used to have very irregular cycles and then every once in a blue moon, I would have one, normal cycle.

Sometimes I'll have a normal cycle for a few months, then I go back to being irregular.

welcome to sc yes, each month can be different. maybe you will have a few scans a few weeks apart?? thats what my dr arranged for me. 1 scan and another 6 weeks later- which is a different part of the cycle.

I had a regular period for the first time in years after my second miscarriage, I was hopeful that everything had gone back to normal but no such luck. I asked my fertility specialist about it and he says that it is normal for women with PCOS to have a few normal periods then they go wonky again. Hope that helps!

Thanks for all the replies, scan showed small ovaries with no cysts on right ovary, in his words 'the left ovary looks a bit suspect' but he couldn't get a good look at it. Wasn't interested in pursuing it any further and said he wouldn't diagnose PCOS from my ovaries. Recommended seeing a gynacologist for my wonky cycles. I sense a battle on my hands. I was going to ask my doctor to check my insulin levels and if they come back normal, I think I'll have to give up and accept my long cycles, acne and weight are down to something else. Seems unlikely when I say it like that. Anyway. Goddamn.
