Question Gold Coast Holiday?

Anyone from the Gold Coast? I am hoping to holiday there next year with my DH and DS's. I would like some ideas for places to stay (mid priced/self contained), cheap ideas for touring and transport ect. Also what do we absolutely have to see and what are the best times for weather/avoiding crowds? There is just sooooo many hotels ect I dont know where to start!

Thanks!

Hi Tan,
I live on the Gold Coast and you are right, there are so many places to choose from, it must be a nightmare!
When we go on holidays, we usually call
Queensland Accomodation Corporation on 1300 733 773. You can buy vouchers from them (we usually stay on the Sunshine Coast at the Outrigger), and it is excellent value. There are the obvious places to go, especially with the kids like the theme parks. You can get a three day theme park pass which saves you quite a bit of money. I think you get to go to Movie World, Sea World and Wet & Wild. All good fun. We used to have a season pass to Sea World, and the best time to go was on the weekends, because most of the tourists would do the theme park thing during the week, it all depends on how much time you have I guess. Appart from that I would probably just go for a wander through Surfers Paradise when you get here, there are heaps of tourist information places everywhere. There is also Currumbin Wildlife Park which is supposed to be great. They do park ranger half day tours for the kids which also apparently are excellent. As for the time of year to visit, who knows, depends on how much swimming you want to do. School hollidays are obviously very busy.
I hope this info is of some help - have a great holiday!
Donna. (New tourism minister for the Golds Coast )

Hi Tan,
I have never actually STAYED at the Gold Coast, we have always holidayed at the Sunshine Coast. But I have been to all of the theme parks etc. They are much more fun in the 'off peak' season when you don't have to battle the crowds so much. You can often get cheap accommodation if you book on line. I did a search the other day to find some accomm for friends at the Sunny Coast and was surprised how much is available.
You'll have to let us know when you come up this way - we'd like to meet you .
Your boys are so gorgeous - love the pics!!

Amy

PS
LOVE the photos Donna . DS is gorgeous - I love those curls .

Thanks for the info Donna and Amy!

Why go to the Sunshine Coast instead of the Gold Coast? Is there something I should know about? How far from GC to SC?

I will certainly give you the heads up when I am in the area, which wont be until early next year. But we know how time flies after 21! I am planning to go off peak, but want to go when its still swimming weather.

Yes our boys are gorgous! (including yours Amy) It must be something in the Aussie water. LOL

cheers!

Hi ladies,
I did mean to mention your boys Tan. I noticed how cute they were when I first opened the thread, then I got carried away with the info, I got side tracked. I was thinking what a great age they are to really enjoy the theme parks. I was lying in bed thinking about this last night and forgot to mention Mt Tamborine. It is perfect for a day trip. They have wineries and water falls, bush walks and if you go on the weekend they have markets. Also Byron Bay is only a day trip away from the GC, only about an hour. It is beautiful. If you go there you can go up to the light house and you can then say that you have been to the Eastern most tip of Australia! The Sunshine Coast is also beautiful. We go there to visit friends and also because it is a get away not far from home and it is only about two hours drive from the Gold Coast.
Amy thank you for your complements. Everyone loves Mackenzie's curls. The older he gets the tighter they get. I love em! I noticed the photo of your little one under your name, very cute. He looks like he has a very similar cheeky grin like Mackenzies. Hopefully I will be able to make it to the next get together and be able to meet you all!.
Take care, and happy planning Tan.
Donna.
