Hello everyone,

I posted a while back about my awful experience trying to get an appointment with Dr. Widra. Well I have found two really good doctors in the area......finally. I am seeing Dr. Nancy Durso in Alexandria for my PCOS issues, she does specialize in fertility but unlike Dr. Widra was open to seeing me. Her office staff was super nice and every time I call with a question I talk to Gail Dr. Widra's physician's assistant and she helps me out with whatever I need. Dr. Durso was open to different treatments and had no problem when I asked her to put me on Fortamet instead of generic Metformin, because I heard it might have less of the side effects.

For my regular OB/GYN I started seeing Dr. Sandra Caskie in Arlington after a horrible experience with Dr. Judith Gurdian's office in Rockville. Dr. Caskie took me into her office after our appointment and talked to me, listened and quelled some of my worries even.....imagine that.

Anyway I just wanted to post in case this would help anyone else in the area.

Good luck!!

For those of you in this area - I make the trek down to Richmond to see Dr. Nestler at VCU. It's a long wait for an appointment, but he's one of the leading PCOS doctors in the country, and Richmond is only 2 hours away. I'd recommend him.

Dr. Caskie is awesome. I saw one of her partners, and her sometimes, before switching to an RE (Dr. Broomfield at Washington Fertility Center), and was happy with them.

Glad you found someone! I have a great gyn in DC (Dr. Schaffel) who is not on insurance but my insurance reimburses me 80%, and I usually can get in to see her within two days of calling for an appointment, plus she emails me all the time and calls me back within a couple of hours, even if it's 9 PM. She consulted with an RE about my case but I can't remember his name (it's none of the ones mentioned here, and he's in DC, not outside). When I do, I'll post it.

Dr. Schaffel has never once commented on my weight or anything, and is the first doctor who's willing to do my needed surgery despite my being single and without children. Is so fantastic. (My only issue is living alone and being without too many friends, so surgery is difficult, due to the aftercare...)

We are considering becoming new patients of Dr. Durso. Do you happen to know if she's "size friendly," or open to treating plus-size women (like me) and helping them get pregnant? I know that some docs aren't, so we're trying to find a good one!

Thank you so much!

Default Reply to Dr. Durso question

Hi,

I don't know about "size friendly" since I am seeing Dr. Durso strictly for my PCOS and not ttc right now, however what I can tell you is that all of my experiences with her have been fantastic. We always talk in her office before my appointment and she is always open to new ideas for treatment. Her office staff and physician's assistant Gail are equally as helpful and always available to answer questions even via phone.

Sorry I couldn't be more help. I definitely think she is worth a try though.

Good Luck!!
