Good stories about laser?
I've only had electrolysis and I'm annoyed with it. It hurts and takes too long. I have a large area on my stomach/chest, its a lot of fine hairs. It would be so much quicker to just get it lasered. But I've heard with laser it grows back after a year. Mind you, I've gotten all my info from electrolysis technicians - so not exactly objective, maybe not even factual???
Has anyone gotten laser over a year ago, and is pleased with the results?

I had laser in 1999 and have been very happy with it. I had very little hair regrowth until my PCOS suddenly went crazy in 2002. It took a few years before I was diagnosed and treated and during that time I experienced some regrowth. But even now, going on 8 years later, my hair growth is about 1/10th of what it used to be.
I actually plan on possible having some areas done again at some point in the future to get rid of the new growth. Namely, my underarms and bikini line....I have light growth now, but I went years without ever having to shave! It was great!! Before laser, it got to the point where I could not shave without very painfull rashes and ingrown hairs in these areas. If I had to go sleeveless or put on a bathing suite, I would have to wait until right before to shave and hope I made it through the function before the unsightly rash started.
Some words of caution. The laser works best with fair skin and dark, thick hair which suited me perfectly. If the hair is thin and light, it probably will not work very well. For example, even on me, I got great results on my lower legs, but not so great on my upper legs where the hair was thinner and lighter. I also would hesitate to spend the money if my hormones weren't under control yet, because you are more prone to regrowth and your money will be wasted.
HTH, goog luck!!

I treated one area over a one year period (every 8 to 12 weeks) and have not had regrowth there in 2 years. The process takes awhile, but every treatment got me closer to my goal. I'm now about 10 months into treatments of other areas and I'm seeing the same type of results.. there's almost no hair to treat even after 12 weeks. I always thought I would have to do maintenance treatments on that first area to keep it hair-free but for 2 years there has been nothing to treat. I'm hoping to have the same results over these larger areas I'm doing now. But even if I have to go in once or twice a year to keep things totally gone then it will be worth it. Don't let anyone talk you out of it. It changed my life-I can't believe the things I went thru before that I don't give a second thought to now.

happy with laser
I did electrolysis years ago without success. I decided to try again with laser, but was sceptical so I talked first with a good dermatologist. She told me that "hormones can make the hair grow back" so it's important to have that under control before you spend tons of money on getting the hair removed. I've been very happy with the laser treatments, which I finished about 6 months ago. A few hairs are back, the ones that didn't get zapped enough the first time around. This is normal and I'll eventually go in for another session. Comparing electrolysis and laser: both aren't pleasant, but pain is bearable. Laser worked better for me.

Thanks for you replies. I didn' know it was painfull, I thought of it as a warm light. What's the pain like compared to electroysis? How long do the sessions go for? What areas did you have treated?

I had my first laser treatment about two weeks ago, and I am already noticing a large difference. Each morning, I seem to be waking up with less and less hair! I am beyond happy and I don't care if I have to have maintenance laser treatments all my life. The thought of being hair free on my face will be a god-send.

I had my first laser treatment on my chin and upper lip in August of 2006 and finished 8 treatments. I have had three retreatments on my chin after the initial 8 to clear up some stragglers. As far as the pain goes it's really not too bad. A lot of people describe it as a rubber band snapping the skin - I'd say that is a pretty fair assessment. It can be more intense depending on the number of joules the laser person uses. A couple of my sessions were pretty intense, especially the later ones, but I survived. The few seconds I was in pain are totally worth not having to pluck my stupid chin every day! I don't think you'd be disappointed with laser - it changed my life, just like another user has said.
