Mogen David Wine, soy sauce, brown sugar, water, garlic powder, lemon juice mixed up. Marinate the steaks at least overnight. They will be delish, let me tell ya...

I love Allegro marinade. It is sooooooooo good. It is good alone but if you do this recipe it is even better. It makes great au jus-even if the meat sucks.
1/2 c Allegro
1/2 c Olive oil
1/2 c Red Wine Vinegar
salt
onion powder
garlic powder
cumin
oregeno

Any acid will work. Wine, vinegar (careful, not too long in that), citrus juice... Another great tenderizer is pineapple or even papaya juice. They contain enzymes that break down the meat. Just don't leave it in there too long, or the meat will go mushy.

really? MD wine? i do love that stuff. Some storebought marinades or dry packet mixes i've crossed are pretty good. There's a lady in St. Louis' Soulard Market who sells a rub that is very flavorful (cherries rib rub), and some of the mccormick season mixes are quite good. Those could always be mixed with water and a small portion of balsamic vinegar.
Its been a while since i actually made steak, but a cooking trick i picked up from my brother was to coat it in a thin layer of butter and then cover it in cracked black pepper. I wouldn't risk butter substitutes for grilling, because some are highly flammable.
Yup, MD Wine does well with steak. You do have to give it at least overnight though to get the full effect. Its my MIL's recipe. When we don't go the MD Wine route, my DH bastes the steak in butter and sprinkles it with seasoning salt & garlic powder while it cooks. That comes out very tastee also.
