i went to the Endo. and asked him for Met,, he gave me 500mg 1x a day,, i asked him if this was to increase and he said "NO"??? he said that 500mg was enough to make a difference,,, i don't have diabeties,,, so is this enough? he said that this is not a magic pill and will only help a little bit,, gave me the old diet and excercise speech!!!! my waist measures 100cm today,, he said that it should be 88 MAX... in order to get rid off/avoid diabeties and all that bad stuff..... so i have to lose 12cm or 5inches ... he suggests i do this before i ttc.... any suggestions
I started out on 500mg 2x a day, now I am @ 2000mg a day. I'm not a dr, but mine did tell me that at least 1500mg was average dose necessary.
Your endo sounds like some one the drs. I have been to in my quest for help with PCOS. I got the impression in the past that some felt that I was just a fat, lazy woman. One endo I went asked me why I wanted to have a period & informed me most women would like to be rid of them. I never went back to him. The last dr. I went to (before finding the one I go to now & love) refused to give me met, even with my IR results & told me to loose weight. (Like I didn't know I need to loose weight!) She also seemed so repulsed when I talked to her about my hairiness. So, FINALLY I found my new dr. & am getting the respect & treatment I need.
To be honest, I think alot of drs don't really know much about PCOS & the search for one is so frustrating. Maybe you could get another dr opinion?

i wish i could get a 2nd opinion but he is the only Endo in my city..... i was trying to find a new family doc last week.... NOT 1 doc accepting new patients!!!! in my city you are lucky to find a doc, never mind a good one!!! sucks...... I have an appt in sept with my gyno, maybe i will ask her for an increase....
1000mg a day did nothing for me and the DR refused to up the dose so I went off. I am going to a new DR Tues to see if he would actually give me the right dose. Good luck

also my suggestion would be if hes not willing to increase find another DR bc as most will agree 1500-2000 is the minimum that is said to be of help to PCOS gals
