Default got silver fillings??

I was just reading up on silver fillings and mercury poisoning.
Quite a bit of evidence that it can cause endocrine issues.

Mercury Affects Endocrine System & Accumulates in Thyroid & Pituitary Glands
Mercury exposure from amalgams leads to interference with brain catecholamine reactivity levels, has a pronounced effect on the human endocrine system, and accumulates in both the thyroid and pituitary glands, reducing production of important hormones.
–Carmignani, Finelli and Boscolo, 1983; Kosta et al, 1975; Trakhtenberg, 1974
Mercury induces the thyroid gland to absorb an increasing amount of nuclear radiation from the environment.
–Trakhtenberg, 1974

I would recommend getting them changed out. they are 50% mercury, which has been proven to contribute to als and alzheimers to name a couple.

I had five removed and immediately started to feel better. I'd been having trouble with skin rashes along my jaw line since I was a teen. I've never had them since.

Get rid of Mercury fillings - they shouldn't be in any of our mouths.

What did you replace it with? Was it expensive?

I just had my first cavities filled. I had the option of silver or white fillings. The white ones are some sort of plastic. Glad I took that option!

I tried posting this and it doesn't show, so if I get a duplicate post, sorry!

This is the result of a google search for "plastic cavity fillings"

Types of Dental Fillings

There are different types of dental fillings. They are as follows

Amalgam

Amalgam fillings (also known as metal fillings) may contain mercury. Mercury in dental fillings has been questioned as the absorption of the body of mercury could contribute to diseases such as dementia and multiple sclerosis. Amalgam fillings are made up of a composition of metals containing silver, copper, tin and zinc and mercury liquid.

Composite Resin

Composite resin fillings or plastic dental fillings are an alternative to metal tooth fillings. Composite dental fillings look like a natural tooth and will not show any signs of a filling in the mouth when smiling or opening the mouth. These fillings are just as strong and durable as metal fillings and should last approximately 6-12 years.

Other Fillings

Amalgam dental fillings tend to blacken over time and there is a small risk of small amounts of mercury ending up in the body with this type of filling. These fillings tend to last a bit longer (approximately 20-25 years) than composite resin fillings and can be applied in a less time consuming procedure. These fillings are covered by any dental insurance.

Composite dental fillings look like natural teeth and are made of plastic. The filling will not change color. However the filling will possibly last for a shorter period of time and the costs of composite resin fillings might not always be covered by your dental insurance.

I don't believe the tiny bit of fillings are going to cause anyone harm. If you had all your teeth filled, maybe there is a slight chance. I had 2 or so teeth filled with the old style fillings and the rest with the white ceramic. The ceramic can come out, and in one case left me with exposed bottom part of my teeth right above the roots when it came off.

Hey y'all!

I work for a dentist so I thought I might be able to shed some light here.... My doctor does not do amalgam fillings at all. We only restore with composite resin. The resin actually bonds to your tooth leaving it with much more stability and provides a much more permanent restoration for the money. Silver amalgam fillings are placed by making a "dove tail" - meaning the hole is wider and deeper at the bottom. The filling material is then packed in until it hardens. It does not bond to the tooth and will actually expand and contract with heat, cold and chewing. Most teeth filled with silver fillings break over time causing more extensive dental work to be needed - usually crown and/or root canal and crown. Depending on where you live this can cost around $2000...... Hope this helps in addition to the article about hormones! Hugs and baby dust to al!

I had mine replaced with a ceramic composite. My dentist was so good that if I were to open my mouth wide you'd have to really look to see which teeth have been repaired.

Re - Old Amalgam - my dentist said that the life span of most amalgam is 10 years but it can last longer. I'd had mine for 15 + years. You can tell when they're starting to really break down because the edges of the fillings seem to roll. Mine also looked shinier around the edges.

As an aside - food tastes better without them too.

As for cost - I had dental insurance so I only paid a co-pay of about $200.

Best,

Paula

Wow, I had heard this was used yrs ago, but I didn't know they still used mercury in fillings. I had a distant relative die of mercury poisoning in the early 1900's...she was in her 20's. I don't know if she had fillings or not, but I thought it was odd for someone to die from it at such a young age. After googling causes of mercury poisoning, I came across the tooth filling theory. I found out about this relative through working on my famly geneology.

My silver fillings have been gradually breaking down over the past few years (I got them all nearly 30 years ago). As one goes bad, my dentist replaces it. No need to go get them all done at once that way. I only have 3 of the silver ones left now.
