Default GP in Southern/Central IL

I have a pretty good OB/GYN, a great psychiatrist, and a wonderful counselor, but my general practioner is really only good for talking about ear infections and tummy aches. The older I get and the more complicated my health issues become, the more awkward I feel going to him. Anyone know of a really good primary care doctor in Southern (around Carbondale) or East Central (Mattoon/Charleston) Illinois?

I'm in southern Illinois also, and would like to know the same thing. I use to go to a really good practitioner in Cairo, IL. but she has moved to Herrin, IL

Hey there! Her name is Maureen Snow, and she was actually the one who diagnosed me with PCOS. But since she was just a practitioner, she could'nt put it on paper I don't think. She is a great practitioner, with a great personality. If you would like, I will find out her contact info for you.

Thanks for the info! I'll look her up and let you know if I have any trouble finding her. I wish I knew of someone good down closer to you, but I don't. Good luck! Good family doctors are hard to find around here.

If you need her contact information, just let me know. My uncle goes to her, and she is great. I would go to her, but don't have the money to go to any doctor at the moment..arggh. Also, I agree, it is very hard to find doctor's around here. When I absolutely have to go, I go to the clinic in Cairo, and they are all terrible down there. Well, not all of them, but most of them. If I had insurance, I would either go to Carbondale or Cape. Good luck sweetie!

Do any of you know a good RE or OB/GYN who is good about diagnosing and treating PCOS? The reason I ask is that I grew up in the Bootheel (about 45 miles SW of Cape, in fact, my dad is a nurse at St. Francis) and my best friend's sister was diagnosed with PCOS a year or so ago. She was TTC and was seeing an infertility specialist in St. Louis, who basically told her that he thought she had it but there was nothing to be done about it. Apparently, he had never heard of the whole metformin thing.

Anyway, I'm trying to talk to her about my situation and tell her that there is in fact something that can be done, but I'd like to give her the name of a doctor in the area who would be able to help her. Any info you can give me would be appreciated.

Becky

Avoid Carbondale Memorial....Those Idiots had trouble diagnosing Chicken Pox on my friend. When I started getting loud they finally admitted her......in PEDIATRICS for isolation. Then when I asked the nurse for female products for my friend they got upset and asked why did she need it!!! She was 26 and not American, those GRRR!(I can't say) wouldn't speak in simple language for her, that poor thing had no idea what was happening to her.....
We did get the nurses when I said we needed to call her parents in Chicago, they dialed for us, but I forgot to tell them that her folks only speak Polish. Shocked the heck out of them!
Can you tell I don't like Carbondale Memorial??
