Smile great low carb chocolate fix!!!!!

I just started a high protein/low carb diet and HAD to have some chocolate! I ventured out to Walmart at 10 pm and found the BEST "candybar"! It's called "Pure De-lite". It's Belgian chocolate sweetened w/ Maltitol. I don't really know much about Maltitol, but so far it's not giving me migraines like every other artificial sweetener! The company is from Canada. They sell other products too. Their web site is www.puredeliteproducts.com. Does anyone else know of other products sweetened w/ maltitol? i.e. soda???

I love those candy bars! My fav is the peanutbutter caramel! Yummy! Honestly the only products I've seen with malitol is sugar free chocolate or candy.

As far as sodas go I drink Waist Watchers sodas they are made with splenda and they dont make me feel bad like aspartame did. Have you tried splenda? I dont know of any sodas made with malitol. Good luck!

I think they are the best too. My favorite is the milk chocolate crisp. I didn't see the peanutbutter caramel. Maybe they were out?? I also bought the chocolate mint - not bad, but the crisp is much better.

Yes, I've tried Splenda. Same results: migraines

I've been wanting to try more products w/ stevia too. Does anyone know if there are any sodas sweetened w/ it ????

Yes, I need a soda fix too!!!

I looked on the web site and they didnt have the peanut butter caramel. I bought it at walmart yesterday and it was definately pure delight! Weird!

I've tried the mint, very tasty, have yet to try the crisp.

Good luck on the soda hunt!

Actually in Asia, all of their diet sodas are sweetened with stevia. I have no idea if you can get your hands on any, though!

I do drink the stevia limeade and I really like it. I got it at
steviasmart

they have stevia hot cocoa too.

The Pure delight bars are by the diet drinks and vitamins. They're by all the "granola" type diet bars. At my walmart they are near the bottom shelf. They come in 6/box. It's the size of a short toothpaste box. Sometimes they have extra stock on the top shelf too.

If they don't have them you can probably request that they get them in stock or you can order from www.puredeliteproducts.com

They have cookies on their web site. I want to try them too! They have been a lifesaver for me on this high protein/low carb diet. I've lost 6 lbs in 5 days already. I try to limit myself to 20g of carbs/day. Another treat I had tonight is Breyers vanilla ice cream. Not the low fat stuff. Just the normal kind. It only has 15g of carbs for 1/2 cup. I ate it w/ a pure delite candy bar. YUM!!!!!

good luck finding them!

Default Maltitol Sweetener

Hi all,

FYI in case anyone is interested. I found another product sweetened w/ Maltitol. Jelly belly's. I saw them at TJ MAXX of all places, but I'm sure they're probably at your local candy store!

I didn't buy them though. I would rather have CHOCOLATE!!!!!

VegSteph - thanks for the info on stevia. I PMed you too.

Cool Hi Fellow Chocoholics!

I too am addicted to Pure Delight Chocolate Bars. I love the one with almond, it tastes like a Toblerone to me The coconut one is really good too, & usually I don't love coconut.
The only problem with Pure Delight is that they are pretty expensive here (about $3/bar with tax).
I was wondering if anyone knows if the Russell Stover Sugar Free chocolates are OK for those of us doing low carb?? I have started to buy them instead b/c they are a lot cheaper, but the carb count is higher.
The Pure Delight wrapper only tells you the # of carbs that actually affect your blood sugar, so it leaves out Maltitol, but I think that the Russell Stover carb count includes Maltitol??
If anyone knows whether or not these are OK I'd love to know. Hopefully I'm not sabotaging my diet!!
Thanks,
Elizabeth
P.S. I also love the sugar-free Chapmans Ice Cream Sandwiches & Fudgesicles!! Please tell me these are OK!!

Hi Elizabeth,

I like the almond ones too. Haven't tried the coconut - don't have them at my Walmart. I can't believe they are so expensive there! Especially when they are a product of Canada. I just looked at my box - mine are distributed from Utah. ??? Is the $3/each a health food store price? I get 6 bars/box for under $6!Do you have walmarts in Canada? If not, you might want to make a "run for the border". Not for Taco Bell though! LOL

As far as I know they are "legal" on the adkins type of diet. I would think they would have to be if they advertise "sugar free", especially for diabetics. I'm sure eating them as if they're legal!!!! From what I know, just subtract the grams of maltitol from the total carb grams because it is a low digestable carb it has very little impact - if any - on your blood sugar. Don't forget to subtract the fiber too!!! Then you have your net carbs.

I haven't tried the Russell Stovers yet. I'll have to check it out. I have an outlet store acrosse the street from me Thanks for the tip!

I haven't ever seen Chapman treats at out grocery stores, but I will have to look! Are they sweetened w/ maltitol too?

Don't know if I helped you any??? Sorry to hear of your mc recently Hang in there!!!!! Did you continue taking the met after you found out you were pg? I took it until my 6 weeks us after they saw the heartbeat. Did you have your progesterone checked frequently? I had my HCG and progest checked every other day w/ my preg early on. Had to take vag suppositories due to low progest until 11 weeks. I got preg on met alone too.

I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Kellie

Thanks for your reply Kellie. I will be interested to know what you think of the Russell Stover's, & whether they're allowed. I think that in moderation they are probably OK, but not as low in carbs as the Pure Delights. I think I'll take your advice & stock up next time I or someone I know goes to the States. $6 for 6!!!??? That is great!! (That would be ~ $9 Canadian but still, much better )

The Chapman's Ice Cream treats are made with Sucralose, Sorbitol & Maltitol. They are SOOOO good!! (I'm an ice cream freak )

Thanks for the encouragement re: my recent m/c. It has been frustrating & hard. In answer to your question, yes I did stay on Met (for the 2nd one... the 1st time I wasn't dx'd with PCOS yet & only took Clomid). But both my pg's have been chemical. I wonder why they didn't even begin to progress at all. Makes me think my body is a very hostile environment!! My RE will be doing more tests after my next period.

Seeing your success story made me feel better & gave me hope. For some reason I had it in my head that it gets much harder for cysters to get pg as they age (I guess b/c many cysters who got pg young had no trouble but a lot of them seem to be now suffering 2ndary infertility?? Maybe that is just my (mis)perception / paranoia!!)

Anyways, congrats on your lil punkin I'm sure he's sweet!
Elizabeth
