It's a B vitamin that IR bodies excrete too quickly so they don't have enough. It sensitizes your cells to insulin so your body can use it thus the food you eat can be used as energy rather than it being stored as fat. So cravings go away because the body isn't thinking it needs more energy, it knows that you are feeding it plenty because it can use it. That make sense?

I just received my SP and Wild yam root today. I ordered these on June 30th, and they get here on July 16th?? That's a long time.
Anyway, I have course upper lip hair, and i have hair on my chin and just a little where my sideburns are. I also have arm hair and hair on my stomach. So I will keep everyone updated on the progress, if any. I'm a little skeptical now that the person who started this thread only has 6 posts and hasn't posted on here since. And the other person who confirmed her story has only 2 posts, and both were on this thread.

I stumbled across this post and was really interested and bought the saw palmetto and wild yam root from vitamin world as well, but the bottle for the saw palmetto has a warning about it being only for men and and is not intended for women. Does anyone else have the same warning but using it anyway? Should I get a different kind? Is there a saw palmetto just for women? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to be sure I am not going to do something worse for my body. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!
Here's a quote about Saw Palmetto from "The Ultimate PCOS Handbook:"
Traditionally used for male prostate problems. Numerous studies have confirmed that saw palmetto is effective in slowing down the conversion of testosterone. As it works as an anti-androgen, it can be very helpful for women with PCOS.
Typically, saw palmetto is suggested to women with PCOS who have excess hair growth, or have been told they have high levels of androgens. Doses will vary woman to woman depending on the severity of symptoms, so it's always best to consult with a qualified medical herbalist rather than self-prescribing.

Thanks, I guess will try and see and ask my doc. I was wondering if they sell it specifically for women though. I guess I will just research more on the internet.
Ladies, I'm interested in hearing your results with this. I am skeptical about it working within a week (seems way too good to be true!), so let us know!
I read this thread a couple weeks ago and decided to try it. I have used wild yam many times in the last 6-7 years to induce a bleed. I've also been on saw palmetto for a few months but am a little irregular taking it. I hadn't noticed any benefits from taking the saw palmetto with vitex. My pills are 200 mg (standardized), one pill wild yam and one saw palmetto in the AM and one of each in the PM. After a week or 10 days there was a huge reduction in hair. What did grow back was maybe 25% of what I had before and the great part is that it was very fine and light colored. I would say this absolutely worked for me in a very short period of time. My concern is that this dose of wild yam will prevent ovulation. I guess I'll find out!

I am reading up on these since I'm pregnant and wouldn't want to risk my pregnancy. So far I read "Diosgenin found in wild yam brings relief to irritations and nervous conditions in all parts of the body, but is found to be less effective when the substance lacks in tenor. Wild yam is especially beneficial during pregnancy and childbirth and the above statement is valid in both the cases. The herb is an effective remedy to cure any kind of cramps arising out of tension or stress during the pregnancy period. Herbal medicine practitioners have conventionally used wild yam to cure conditions of endangered miscarriage. Many herbalists have also used wild yam in treating the nausea or vomiting tendencies during pregnancy and child birth.". This sounds great so far but I will consult with dr first. Saw palmetto is not safe during pregnancy. So if you are trying or are currently pregnant I would say this would be a bad combo but one worth looking forward to once your baby is born and once you have stopped breast feeding.
