I have to say that I didn't have good luck with Dr. Cartwright. At first, she was very good - she ran bloodwork and did an HSG and had DH have an S/A, and explained BBT charting to me, all like she should have done. (Although she forgot to order a testerone test, and she wrote "need repeat" on DH's S/A results but it was never communicated to me that he needed a repeat). However, she did not do an u/s to look for cysts, and then put me on Metformin without even seeing if I was IR and then refused to monitor me or even do a P4 when I was on Clomid. Metformin can be a powerful drug and its users should be monitored for certain things at least once a year.
She also refuses to acknowledge that there is such a thing as a chemical pregnancy and told me in January that I had never been PG - even though there was a lab report from Quest Diagnostics right in front of her saying I was PG and she needed to send me back in 2 to 4 days for more bloodwork (which she did not do). We think she was trying to cover her behind. She told me Clomid caused HCG to be in my system and make the tests turn positive. (2 other doctors have confirmed that is not possible unless you get a trigger shot, which I have never had). I had also had 3 positive home tests that cycle, before I m/c. She also made fun of me for some of the questions I called in with, then when I reminded her that it was ME that called in with those questions, she stuttered and stammered and said it was another patient who called the exchange with the exact same questions over a weekend.
Anyway, I have since switched doctors, and thank goodness, because I just had another confirmed PG loss at 18 DPO, just like in January. Dr. Cartwright would still be insisting I hadn't been PG. My new doc does beleive in chemical pregnancies and suspects I may have an autoimmune disorder. I'm getting Repeat PG Loss Testing done in a few weeks.
Ironically, Dr. Cartwright diagnosed me with PCOS, but my new OB-GYN and an RE that I saw last month both say I don't have it; instead I have "unexplained oligomennorhea" and "possible insulin resistance." Because Metformin makes my cycles regular, I won't go off it long enough to take the fasting insulin test! But we are assuming that I'm IR, since my body responds to it. Anyway, since I don't have PCOS, maybe I shouldn't even be on SoulCysters anymore, but I get so much support here that I can't bear to leave - plus I do still have some symptoms.
I'm not trying to slander anyone; it's just that my experience with her ended on a very sour note. I did feel that she was a good listener, and she never made me feel rushed. I was always very comfortable with her and felt she was very good at explaining things in "layman's terms". I really, really liked her at first, but after my first m/c when I started to ask more questions about treatments, etc., she would get defensive. She wasn't open to ideas when I'd approach her with them, and making fun of my questions was the last straw. This is MY body and MY health and they were MY babies, and I'm going to take it seriously!
If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me...also, I would prefer that this post be treated with confidentiality and be limited to viewing only by other members of SoulCysters. I don't need to be slapped with a slander lawsuit (although I'm not lying about anything on this post.)
Thanks!
