I was diagnosed back in May of 2003 of having Diabetes Type 2. My PCP back in CA put me on Metformin, and right away I began noticing some really positive results. I lost a lot of weight, stopped getting boils, started feeling more energy, and my constant nausea went away.
Fast forward to the present. For the last several months, I had begun feeling ill in more ways than one and could not figure myself out. I am now living in TX and found a PCP and complained to him about my symptoms and also was wondering if I had been going through menapause (I'm 37). He then advised me to go to a GYN. I went there were I had several tests done to find out I had PCOS, pre-cancerous changes on my uteris lining, an innocent sist on one of my ovaries, and a 4mm pituitary tumor. At that point, I was referred to an Endo. I will be getting a D & C/ Hysteroscopy in mid July. Some people advise me that I will feel better after that surgery.
I have 98% of the symptoms of Cushings Syndrome and going for several opinions. However, my current Endo said that my pit. tumor isn't affecting anything at all. While I feel a sense of relief, I feel a strong sense of doubt and confusion. She said that most of my symptoms are because I have "Insulin Resistance Syndrome". She didn't really know where the rest of my symptoms were coming from. She also said there's not a cure for everything which made me feel very sad. I'm not too thrilled with her especially NOW since I just found out that she is refusing to refill my Glyburide (the one med that keeps my sugars normal). Her justification is that being that my AC1 is 6.6 that I don't need an Endo and that if I need refills, I need to get that through my PCP. I will be seeing another Endo on Aug. 10th. Too bad I have to wait so long, but I hear he's an excellent doctor. If that is the case, he sure is worth the wait!
My PCP detected "high liver enzymes" in my blood but has ruled out Hepatites. However, he had me get an ultrasound done on my liver, and that's when they found out I had gallstones. I won't know until tomorrow what type of gallstones I have, but that will explain the frequent pain of have in my right and left upper abdomen.
It does look like Diabetes causes a lot of problems. I am also on Lisinopril for having too much protein in my urine. I'm not worried about this, though.
The most mysterious complaint I have is a severe sensitivity to heat. Nobody has ever been able to figure this out. I get nauseous, irritated, red in the face, I feel faint and ready to fade out of the picture all together. My Endo said that may be from my Diabetes? I have never heard of Diabetics feeling strong sensitivity to sun and heat. In any event, everyone thinks I'm crazy! I guess you have to feel like a nut for a while until medical science advances enough to validate what you are going through (either that or find a doctor that's willing to take the time to explore). These are **not** hot flashes, mind you. My GYN found that I am not menapausal. Thank Goodness!
On top of all of this, I have a lot of stress at work and suffer from Atypical Depression, anxiety, and often feel irritated and on the edge. I take clonopan when I have an enormous amount of anxiety, but I am off major meds for depression as my kidneys and liver are down. I am hoping they find a psychiatric drug for me that doesn't harm my organs. All I ask is for some occasional peace for a change.
I occasionally take Klonopan for anxiety or severe depresseve bouts, and Xanax when I cannot sleep. I also take two Motrin for headaches or when I have abdominal pain from the gallstones.
By the way, does anyone have any opinions on Gallbladder surgery?

I'm also diabetic and have heat intolerance. I have really fair skin and get
overheated easily. I don't have a solution (wish I did.) I just try to drink lots of water, use sunscreen, and try to stay indoors during peak sun times.
My mom had gallblader surgery a few years ago. Her recovery time was quick. She never had any pain, thank God. Her surgery was outpatient. She went home that day, but she wasn't diabetic at the time. I don't know if that changes things.
Sorry, your having so much trouble with your doctors. I hope things improve for you on that front. See you around the boards.
Cheers,
Nora
