Angry Grrrrr.....

I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for almost a year now as remedy to my irregular menstrual cycles. Up until now it has worked like a charm! I have been to-the-day regular with a cycle lasting exactly six days. All of the sudden my period came early in August and has been going for ten days straight. This kind of frustrates me - and concerns me. I wonder if maybe this is just the stress of going back to school, just my irregularity kicking back in, or has the Ortho stopped working? Has anyone else experienced this? If so, I'd love to hear from you!

hi..i notice you are on 1000 mg of gluc..often it takes about1500 to work... when i got on 1500 my periods got really regular...

imo i hate bcps bc they never regulated my period... although i didnt take them for that reason..i took them as contraception..... but when i did take bcps...thats when my periods became IRREGULAR... i know i am wierd lol..i go tmy period 2-3 times a month no matter what dose i took

so.... perhaps you might need to up the glucophage alone and see if that helps and maybe stop bcps so you can get accurate hormone blood tests???

although some women swear by bcps there are alot of us out there that it actually makes pcos worse.....

good luck xoxo jenn

Stress can make you spot while you're on bcp. Happened to me a couple of times. But I'm not on BCP anymore (actually for the reasons prunepie said, but I'm not trying to tell you to stop taking them if you don't want to).

Thank you both for the advice! I cannot increase my Gluc because of all the weight I have lost recently. 1000mg is almost too much for me because for a while I was having fainting spells.
What is really strange is that the bcps had me going perfectly regular for SO long, and then this happens. My period has been going for TWELEVE days now, and it got worse last night. At 5:30 this morning I woke up with the WORST cramps ever, and I have had an extremely heavy flow all day.
I think what this might be is stress. School is keeping me very busy right now. Plus my Mom reminded me that I missed a bc pill earlier this month.
Well, no matter what the cause it's fricken' annoying!

Thanks again ladies!

Hope....my doctor told me that if I was having a heavy enough flow to go thru 3 or more pads or 2-3 super tampons in an hour, then that was hemmoraging..and not normal. Usually, spending a day on bedrest or with your feet up solves it. Keep an eye out on yourself! Don't assume it's nothing.

Take good care!

It may be the bcp. When I first started taking Orthotri Cyclen I bled for a month straight! Then when I began to take the Glucophage in August I started my period right in the middle of the bcp pack. I stopped taking bcps about three days into it and bled for an additional 2 weeks. It my the be hormones in the bcp causing it.
