Guatemala Adoption

We just sent in our application to start the process of adopting a baby boy from Guatemala. I am very excited. My question is do you think we will be able to have the process completed by the end of the year. We are taking the money from my husbands IRA and really hope to have the tax credit in the same year as the distribution. I have started gathering the paperwork for my homestudy already. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

Hi Jennifer,

It is very possible to have the adoption completed by the end of the year but expect the unexpected. A lot depends on how fast you can get an approved I600, FBI Clearance, finish your homestudy, how speedy your Guatemala attorney is and how experienced your agency is with Guatemala adoptions. I am sending my I 600A tomorrow and hope to have my homestudy completed in the next few weeks. My agency is very familiar with Guatemala adoptions. If all goes well I think we will be done by the end of the year but I do that there are no guarantees. I will check out the list you posted. I have not seen it before. At first we were going to adopt from Kazakhstan but changed to Guatemala right before we submitted our contract. Thanks for the information.
