My gums receeded drastically in two places when my other hormone symptoms became more radical. I wondered if the two were related. There was a lot of pain there.

I also have this problem. The solution that worked for me is brushing with crest with scope in it and rinsing with mouthwash frequently. It seems that at times even though you brush, the bacteria starts to attack your gums. Worked for me. HTH

My friend was having this same problem and she said that when she started flushing the area with her water pick that the pain decreased dramatically. You can get a water pick at Target or WalMart for about $20.

I posted about this last week in the Diabetes section. My DD has been having the same problem and I have heard that it could be a symptom of diabetes. We are waiting for blood test results to see if there is any explanation as to why her gums are so inflamed right now. Our GP said just the hormonal imbalance of PCOS could be contributing to it. Other poss causes could be low iron,B12 or Folic Acid. Good luck and I hope it feels better soon

Try Ambesol or some kind of tooth numbing stuff for a temporary solution. If you can get the area numb or mostly numb you should be able to eat. I would stick with softer foods though and avoid things that could get stuck in the sensitive area. I think maybe the extra brushing could be aggravating it and not helping. Hope you feel better!

My gums have been hurting real bad here lately too. It comes and goes. Gently brushing the gums has helped me. When my dentist takes a look he says he doesn't see anything that would cause it.

Make sure when brushing to use vertical strokes and not horizontal ones. I got into trouble going back and forth across the teeth. This leaves behind what eventually erodes the gum and my dentist told me that was one of my biggest problems. It also eliminates the pain to start from the base and brush upwards.

You guys are all correct. Bacteria is the main cause for the tooth discomfort. Warm salt water rinses are great! Advil or any other ibuprofen also is good for tooth pain (but be cautious with this if you are ttc).

The reason the waterpik works is because it does force the bacteria out of the area. Also, the bacteria that cause periodonal or gum problems are anerobic and don't like oxygen and the waterpik forces oxygen (water) into the area...so does floss!

One thing you can try as well is tie a knot in your floss. Carry the floss as you normally would between your teeth. Once you get the floss in there, pull the knot through the area a couple of times. If there is something small lodged like a popcorn kernal or sesame seed it will come out with the knot.

Hope this helps!
