Today I was out and found that I was feeling my blood sugar getting low, so I stopped at CVS for a snack. I choose a protein bar because I wanted it to be something compatible with the IR diet and that was the closest thing I could find. Well the guy at the counter asked me "you're going to eat that?!" and then he proceeded to tell me that it wasn't for females and if I ate it I'd get fat. I was so embarassed and angry because....
1. I do NOT like people judging me for what I eat. I got enough of that when I was fat.
2. As if I'm not insecure enough about my femininity, having someone essentially tell me that I'm eating like a guy does not help one little bit!
3. He had no right to say that even if I was making a nutrition mistake. If everyone did that no one would ever be able to buy ice cream.
4. Plus, it seemed all he knew about nutrition was what he'd read in body building magazines, and they don't say squat about the needs of PCOS women.
I know I should not be because I'm the one who managed to lose 100 pounds 3 years ago after I was diagnosed, but it still upset me. Is that understandable?
I feel your pain...That person shouldn't have said that to you or anyone else. Only if his boss had heard what he had said to you, he wouldn't be working there right now. He doesn't have any idea what you have been through or what you are going through. He has no idea why you were buying that product to begin with. Next time someone says something like that to you maybe explain to them that you are IR and needed something to bring your sugar back up and had to be within certain guidlines. I am sorry that people are very insensitive...

I am so sorry he said that to you. You should have told him to mind his own F*****G business. How did he know it was for you and that you were not buying it for someone else.

Congratulations on your amazing weight loss! I know you probably already know this but you have to ignore ignorance like that. If there is a next time, tell him you would like to speak to his manager immediately. When the manager gets there, 1st tell him how insulted you are and then 2nd tell him that his employee is giving out unwanted medical/pharmaceutical advice. You will get the wanted result.

Thanks you guys. I was too flustered, but I do wish I'd had the presence of mind to tell him to go fck himself. I even did say that I was IR, but as far as he was concerned he knew better than me and nothing was going to convince him otherwise. Oh well. One day he's going to do that again to somoene who will tear him a new one for something like that. It's too bad it couldn't be me, but that's life. Sometimes you miss good opportunities.
Totally understandable!! Some people need to know when to keep their mouth shut!! I would have been the smartalic that I am and said well when you develop ovaries and have PCOS and deal with the things that I deal with I will be sure to tell you what to and what not to eat! As a former educator I would feel the need to educate him on what he has no idea about! I would feel tempted to go back with a printout explaining PCOS. I would also have one for his manager, how would he explain why is this woman giving me this? Ha Ha. What an insensitive jerk!

I gotta tell you that had it been me, I would've lunged the counter at him...don't bother me when I'm hungry and trying to find sustenance!! What a Class A Jerk. I would have started yelling at him, caused a disturbance, and they would have had to haul me out of there while I had my hands full of the hair I pulled out of his head!!!
(P.S. Not really but it would be my fantasy in that situation. Some lot of nerve people think they have. His Mama sure didn't raise him right!)...
