Default GYN said she would try a drug that has been used to treat breast cancer?

I had my annual gyn visit today with a new gyn. She started me back on glucophage 1000mg a day. She mentioned a drug that she would try to help my DH and I to conceive that was used for breast cancer. It is a anti-estrogen pill. I can't remember the name and was wondering if anyone has taken anything like this.
Thanks

Hi,

Is your new med called Femara? If so, my new doc just started me on it this cycle as well. When I did some research on it, I found that it's used for treatment of breast cancer. I guess we'll see what happens... I have tried Clomid in the past and she said this is used the same way. 1 pill per day on CD 5-9...so far I haven't had any side effects whatsoever. Hope this helps!

I've heard of a few people taking Tamoxifen for PCOS. It is an estrogen inhibitor. My mom took it for 5 years after her mastectomy. Try searching on soulcysters for it, and you might find some other people who are taking it.

I took a drug for my pcos that is used to treat prostate cancer. Back when I started taking it, I had the hardest time finding a Dr to Rx it for me. Now it's being rx'd more and more. (It's Eulexin aka Flutamide. It's not even FDA approved in the US for use in women.)

Try searching PubMed to see if any research studies exist on the use of the drug your Dr mentioned in women with pcos - in any country.

That's how I found out about flutamide. Be sure to search on both the brand AND generic names.
