Lizagirl-It's normal to be a little nervous about your first GYN visit or first pap smear. Be sure to talk with the nurse and doctor about anything that's bothering you or makes you uncomfortable.
Also, your doctor might not even have to do a pap smear or use a specula (the little duck-bill looking thing the doctor uses to look inside of you). If for some reason the doctor does need to use one, they will probably use a small specula. There are different sizes of specula, and the smaller one is used for people who have never had sex.
Don't worry too much because they might not even have to do a pap smear. Most of the time when I see my GYN, she examines my breasts and uses an ultrasound machine to look at my ovaries. She can see my cyst with the ultrasound machine. She puts jelly on the lower part of my belly and presses a little rolly device on my tummy until she sees a good picture of my ovary and uterus on the screen. It doesn't hurt at all, and she doesn't even have to look at my privates.
Try to remember that GYNs are generally very open people and understand how uncomfortable the visit can make you feel. Ask them to explain first what they will do, and ask them to talk you through the exam. Remember that they see LOTS of women and girls, and you have nothing to be embarassed of. Going to the GYN is normal and healthy.
If you're really nervous, ask your mom (or a sister, aunt, ect) to stay in the room with you at the doctor's office.
If you have any other questions, doubts, or fears, feel free to PM me.

I'm a student doctor and Wanna-Be-GYN.
Best of luck!
