Default Had a cerclage placed?...During what week

If you have had a cerclage placed, what week did your doc place it, and how did it work for you, was it successful? Any bedrest required?

I am trying to gather as much info on IC, cerclages, GBS as I can...sorry if I am too intrusive...just on a mission to at least prevent THIS from happening to another one of my children in the future.

Thanks ladies.

13.5 weeks along at placement each time

No problems or bedrest, just normal restrictions

Removal of the first one at 36 weeks... I was starting to efface and dilate

Delivery three days before due date (after membranes were stripped to stimulate labor onset) of a nine pounder!! It CAN happen!

My doctor said the next time I have a baby, I will get a cerclage at 14 weeks, but I think I'm going to push for 13, just to be on the safe side. The only experience I've had with cerclages is the rescue one I had and that's much different than a preventative. It still worked very well for me.

Mine had to be placed no longer then 14 weeks but they say 12 to 16 is okay...i did it at 13.5 also. It was taken out at 35 weeks. The first 3 months post cerclage i'd say i was completely bedresting...especially at first where i only got up to pee or make a sandwich...no longer then 10 minutes an hour, gradually making it to 20min per hour with docs permission. I was able to drive myself to the doc every two weeks and make the occasional pitstop at walmart for 10 minutes (depended on my cervical measurement) but I was terrified to stand up too long...as far as i was concerned gravity was my worst enemy...and i honestly think the bedrest played a major role in the success of this pregnancy...

i didnt start even thinking about breathing easier til i hit 28 weeks (24 is viability) and then after that started to 'relax' a bit more...and move around a 'little' more but still nothing compared to normal...by the 30th week the doc was happy cuz i'd already had a 30 weeker before. At 35 they didnt even measure my cervix anymore...and would you believe i had to be induced?? Twice?? Go figure

Oh and i had already posted on your other thread but i tested positive for gbs also (once at 27 weeks and again at 35) and i was sure they'd treat me BEFORE the cerclage was placed but they didnt...i was only given antibiotics when i was in labor...there was no concern during the preg despite the cerclage procedure but i would clarify with your doctor.

as i previously mentioned, i had a rescue cerclage in the past that failed because it was placed too late (18 weeks)

this time, my cerclage was placed at 11w3d. my doc says that 12-14 weeks is normal, but he likes to get them in there nice and early (11 to 12 weeks). i'm 30 weeks and it has worked SO FAR. i havent had actual bedrest, but i do take it VERY easy and do VERY little. i do still work at my desk job though.

there is a lot of good info about IC on the MSN Incompetent cervix support group (i posted a link on the pregnancy board under the IC sticky). also, after my loss, one of the first helpful sites i had found was www.geocities.com/incompetentcervix
there are also some IC yahoo groups and LOTS of medical info about IC on the internet

I had mine placed in at 14.5 weeks, my cervix length didn't change after that. I was monitored with U/S and with 2 prev IC losses where my doctor told me that it was fine at 1.8!! This time if I dipped below 3 I was to be hospitalised

Thanks ladies. I am gathering information to talk with my doctor about at my next (last) OB appointment. I want to ask him about getting a cerclage placed next pregnancy...I don't want to wait until another loss to have it. I m/c'ed at 17 weeks, but I felt my first sign of IC (the profound pressure and slight pain down in front of my uterus) weeks before, but didn't do anything about it because nurse said it was round ligament pain. Anyway, I want to ask for a cerclage, and more constant monitoring of my pregnancy. I want to have a lot of ammo and all my ducks in a row when I go back to see him.

After my doctor realized that I lost my twins due to strep B he told us that next time we would have a cerclage done at 12 weeks. Since my loss was just over the twelve week mark it maybe difficult to make it to the 12 week mark next time so I will be on a course of antibiotics from the first day of my + beta right through to the cerclage.
He hopes that this combination will help.

If I am recalling correctly I think I first started feeling 'something wrong' around my 13th week...I am going to ask my doc how early we can place it. I hope he does not fight me on this...I hate to have to change doctors.
