Default Had my 3rd Lightsheer treatment today

....and man, did it hurt! She increased the setting to 35 (was 25 last time, and 18 the first time) and it definitely was not pleasant. However, everything went well, and I have no bumps or blisters or anything like that. It's still a little red, but not really noticeable. After I got home from the treatment, I put on some makeup and went to Harrahs for some slot action to celebrate

Originally, I was only going to have my chin done, the reason being that the chin is the only area I shave (and have shaved for many, many years). The hair in other areas, like near the corners of my mouth, upper lip, and sideburns, is finer and I tweeze there. Since you are supposed to shave and not tweeze the areas being treated, I decided at first to avoid those areas because I do not want to shave there and have coarser hairs and stubble (and I'm still questioning whether this is going to work for me). During my second treatment, however, she started zapping other areas than the chin (maybe because I gave her a tip the first time? lol, jk). I didn't say anything, since I figured it couldn't hurt and I was getting a little extra for free. Today before the treatment I discussed this with her, and told her I tweeze those areas and wondered if there might be a problem having those areas lasered. She said there was no problem other than less effectiveness for those areas, since the laser can only target hair in the active growth stage, and if they're plucked they can't be zapped. So I'm hoping that it will be better than not having it done at all on those areas, although I have realistic expectations.

Anyway, my entire face is very smooth right now and I'm a happy camper. The hair on my chin is getting more sparse with each treatment, and I would estimate that I have about 60% less hair growth so far.

May I ask how much you are paying per session?

The reason I ask is because I have gotten quotes all over the place. From $100 for the upper lip all the way up to $365. I feel so lost and don't know what to do and this is SERIOUS stuff so I want to make sure I make the right decision!

The cost is $55 per session; however I used a coupon that gives me 2 free if I buy 3, so $165 for these first 5 sessions. Quite a deal!

Wow, that is a great deal. I wish I could find something like that around here. My gynecologist is actually doing it now, which I feel comfortable with because I know her so well, but she gave me the highest price yet! ARGH! I have to keep searching.

After researching it, I found that laser treatments in medical facilities cost much more than those at spas/salons. I am going to a usually very high-priced day spa; the "Laser Center" is upstairs from it but part of the spa, and I was very surprised at how reasonable the treatments are. The woman who does it has a lot of experience with it, and with treating women with PCOS, and she was an electrogist for ten years before she started doing laser. You really have to be careful; the expertise of the person doing it is more important than what type of machine is used.

Thanks Linda. I really appreciate your experience. I am going to do some more calling around tomorrow. I have an ACTH Stimulation Test being done on me for my hormone levels and they told me that I should take it easy the rest of the day. Don't have to tell me twice! So, I will get my yellow pages and call around and ask about the expertice of the person doing the laser removal. Thanks again for your info!

Hi Linda;

You're results are so encouraging!

Do you use Emla or any other kind of topical anesthetic to deal with the pain?

Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Sarah,

No, I don't use any numbing cream. The clinician said that it's not needed with the Lighsheer because of the cooling devise that's used with it. My first two treatments weren't bad at all, but the third at the higher setting made me jump a couple of times. The good thing is, it's all over in a few minutes because I'm having such a small area treated. If I were doing a large area, or a more sensitive area like underarms or bikini line, I would insist on using the numbing cream.
