Unhappy Had to stop taking Met...

I had to stop taking the Met because it was causing some side effects. Since I had started taking it, I was having heart palpatations and I was getting extremely tired. I've been off of it for 3 days now and I'm feeling better. I'm going to go have a physical next week to make sure everything is ok.
I had no idea that Metformin can cause heart palpitations, but I've read that it can cause lactic acidosis and that the heart palpitations can be an indicator of that. Scary!

I'm sorry the met didn't work for you!

Perhaps one of the other drugs (Actos, Avandia) will be better suited to you.

I read that lactic acidosis is VERY rare on met and even more rare on non-diabetic women who take it. Hopefully that wasn't it. Either way, I'm glad you feel better now, that must have been scary!

Definetly talk to your Dr about some of the alternatives to met..both meds (avandia, actos, etc) and the alternative remedies like chromium for IR. Met isn't for everybody so I am glad you are talking to your Dr and I hope you can find the solution that is right for you.

I found some great information on avandia through the internet. My RE also showed me some pretty convincing studies. I have been taking it now 3 weeks and have absolutely no side affects. I have lost a few pounds but I think it was water weight or bloat. I'll be interested to see if it causes AF since that is a sure sign for me it is working. E-mail if you like and I'll share more. jk.mclaughlin@juno.com
